We have traveled this year to Cancun (June 2009) and Puerto Plata (July) and were ready for another Caribbean vacation. I thought a return trip to Jamaica would be nice (we have had two previous trips to Jamaica ...
Negril, Jamaica mcokerAnd so, the backpacking part of our trip has ended and as we had no time to travel Central America, we decided it would be a good enough substitute to spend a week in Montego Bay, Jamaica. When we first planned our trip we vowed that we would spend the last 10 days or so just chilling and taking it all in on the beach somewhere, so when my brother, Craig, mentioned we should meet him in Jamaica we jumped at it! What a tough week it turned out to be ...

Negril, Jamaica msandy1024I spent almost a week in Negril, a long stretch of beaches along the western tip of Jamaica. Very popular with tourists. I walked the beach several times and I've been annoyed by the "farmers" and the like on a regular basis. They are sometimes aggressive. Better to walk along the road than the beach at night to/from the restaurant for obvious reasons. Nice sunsets.
Negril, Jamaica gratien... and left them in the middle of the floor.) Luckily, I only had about $100 US/CDN cash combined and they didn't bother with my passport, credit card or camera! We found out that these sorts of robberies were taking place all along the beach, but they don't take anything that would incriminate them. Cash is untraceable, unlike camera equipment, jewelery or credit cards. The hotel manager and the owner did seem genuinely concerned, particularly when ...
Negril, Jamaica kimandmartin... stand seeking jerk chicken, we were sadly disappointed to find they did not have enough chicken ready for four people (we were traveling with a couple who were JA virgins, as well as our son), so we declined partaking of any of it and moved on to feed our need. After driving up and down the boulevard, we finally lucked up on a little place called Montana's Cafe who could accomodate us at the late hour. We had a couple of Red Stripes, Guinness and fruit ...
Negril, Jamaica rastagalnj... field with vendors on the outskirts selling food, etc. The music had started around 8 or 9pm, but as every Jamaican knows the real music won't start until the middle of the night. Some of us had purchased Rasta flags outside the concert, and a lot of other people had them as well. Because it was a Reggae concert the Rastafarians were out in full force (reggae is rasta music). I have never seen so many in one place before. There were even Rasta's from other ...
