The 7 days we spent on the mountain conjures up so many thoughts and emotions! It has now been 48 hours since we got off the mountain and I think we are finally starting to recover.
Day one was through the rain forest and rain it did!! We arrived at the first camp cold, wet and exhausted. By this evening, I was very uncertain as to how far …
Next stop on the journey was to Zanzibar.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania, in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 Km off the coast of the mainland, and consists of numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar), and …
On our second day we decide to go on the spice tour to one of the local farms. Great fun and quite interesting. Everything from cloves, coffee, masala, pepper, star fruit, pawpaw, cinnamon, cocoa… the list goes on… is grown here. It's honestly a little garden of Eden, when it comes to fruit, veg and spices. We really enjoy the day and …

Finally, its bed time! A nice comfy bed that we can lie down in! Until, Heather has a drink and throws her not-so-closed water bottle into the middle of the bed! Leaving it absolutely sopping wet!
Another early start of 5:30am to catch the ferry! Running through DAR is a lot less hectic at 5:30am than 5:30pm (considering we all nearly got ran over at one point) We were placed in business class - exactly what ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Diamonds La Gemma dell' Est Zanzibar
A wonderful time
I was also very worried after reading the previous reviews, but was pleasantly surprized. It was a lovely hotel, we found the staff to be helpful and friendly. We got lovely flowers in our room everyday, had a breathtaking view and had a holiday of a lifetime. Yes, the staff did sometimes find it difficult to understand us (and we to understand them), but gosh get a life - we experienced the same problem in Norway, Hungary, Germany, New Zealand and Italy. English do have different accents you know! Thanks to Dan and his staff for a wonderful time.
Fantastic Honeymoon at Gemma Del Est
Just arrived back from honeymoon on safari in Kenya then to Zanzibar.
Gemma Del Est is a wonderful hotel. The rooms, beach and pool are great.
The food is of a good standard with plenty of choice.
The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the a la carte seafood restaurant which only offered lobster or prawn. Although it was still very good quality.
The location is perfect, it is a great place if you are looking to relax and totally chill out.
After reading the last two postings, we called our travel agent in a panic about our reservations. However, she assured us that our stay would be enjoyable...and it was!
The holiday from hell
We booked for 10 nights. The hotel was such poor value for money that our travel agent ended up refunding us the full cost of our stay. Need we say anymore!
