    ... nothing else was wonderful.

    Back down in the port, the elite French SAS train in zodiacs, being upturned and then timed getting back into them....all in full fatigues with helmets and guns. One could potentially get into difficulties whilst bathing in the bay, and require rescuing, one supposes......

    ... m and 5 a.m. Aussie Steve reported there were ten trucks and that he even saw a machine washing the dustbins out. (There may be some exaggeration here).

    Every night there is to be an award of a cap and I won it on the first night due to my stoic suffering as my luggage was left behind at the hotel in Empuries and I had to miss aperitifs.

    One of the endearingly infuriating habits of my husband (hello dear!) is that we never stay in a hotel without moving rooms once. Or twice. The first room is too noisy ( despite having pre-requested the quietest room at the back) or perhaps it is too light or too near the lift. Room 306 in the Grand Marina Hotel seemed huge and delightful. The very, very faint smell of smoke would, I thought, disappear. At 2.30 a.m ...

    ... had two hotels.
    I picked one and it turns out my mum's sister was running the place. Well obviously not, but her manner, and the way she dealt with the guests, and her weird little things she kept round the place reminded me of the oldie.
    Pretty basic hotel, weird dolls, but was warm and dry.

    ... traditional French - the usual wonderful cheeses, charcuterie and artisanal bakery, jams etc....with empanadas, paella, and all sorts of other influences from just over the border. Collioure is famed for its hand-packed tinned anchovies too. Yum!

    We're here for 3 glorious weeks...and as French schools all go ...
