Petritoli is a medieval village perched on a hilltop 358 metres above sea level in the Fermo province of Le Marche in central Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. The village is 16km away from the Adriatic coast and its many cute seaside villages.
Petritoli was founded by the Farfense monks around the year 1000 originally named Castel Rodolfo, maybe from the name of a feudal monk.

We ride down the driveway and the imposing front gates into the narrow winding lanes of the town, ...

We have decided to descend to the east and head north through the foothill of the Sibillini mountains to the town of Amandola. On our way across the Piano Grande in sparkling sunshine, we are pursued for a couple of hundred metres, very fast, by a slavering, snarling Maremma. These are the big Italian dogs who live with flocks of sheep to guard them. They look like very solidly built golden retrievers, but twice as big. The climb to the Forca ...

As we were coming to the end of our stay in Macerata, we took some snaps of the lovely aparthotel where we stayed. We'd also seen some Roman ruins on our travels so went back to visit them and discovered an amphitheatre used as a venue for concerts ...
