Historical Traveler Reviews of La Floridiana Capri

We booked by travel agent a superior room with balcony and sea view for an incredible price in August, impressed by their web-site and the beautiful pictures .
Lies!
Room was small, poorly decorated and the bathroom tiny and filthy, air condition in the room was noisy and not working properly, even at maximum you were still sweating in the room.
That not all..
The beach?
Located 5 km away somewhere down to Marina Piccola.
The pool ? No problem, they send you to the nearby hotel Vega pool for only 50 euro a day, two sun-chairs and umbrella! Be ready to pay.
But the main disappointment was that we couldn't change hotel because we paid in advance when we book it.
We got fed up and escaped only the last day, and paid an extra night rate in a wonderful hotel in Marina Piccola (the beach)!
We think that if you really want make the best in a vacation on the island you shouldn't stay 5 km. away from the sea.
Hoping to help the people not to make the same mistakes
Tom
It was disappointing.

In order to avoid a problem, I sent two fax to the direct hotel, and telephoned 4 times for the check, and was making reservation complete. Nevertheless, the room was not reserved when we arrived at the hotel, and staff told that the room was not vacant. We are having reserved the junior suite with seaview for three nights, and having checked that! Eventually we had to spend at the separately dark and narrow room for first night. We were very disappointed.
Average Overall

This was the last hotel I and my travel companion stayed in over the course of three weeks. We stayed here for two nights in late October. In my mind the hotel was average. Let me give you my assessment of the good and bad of the property:
Good Things:
(1) We got a lovely room that overlooked the Mediterranean with a balcony. Lounging on the balcony was wonderful! And, the room was spacious, and included a fridge, tv and spacious sized bathroom.
(2) Maid service was solid. We received new towels daily and the room was kept very clean.
(3) The front desk staff were generally informative and were flexible with our plans. We initially booked for one night, but then changed our minds and added a second night for a good rate.
(4) The breakfast was reasonably good and there was a really good assortment of pastries and beverages, including of course coffee. There was also some ham, cheese, and rolls, but no fresh fruit.
Downsides:
(1) Our room was a little noisy. We were below the buffet/restaurant of the hotel and could hear some of the noise, particularly in the morning. This was not a significant issue however.
(2) The location of the hotel is not entirely great because it is downhill on the side of Capri that faces away from Naples. It is a pleasant downhill walk from the Funicular stop (and main square) going to the hotel, but not so pleasant when one is trying to get back with their luggage (there are porter services available at the hotel however if this is truly an issue). Otherwise, the walk is pleasant.
(3) The hotel has odd charges. There is a 1 euro per bag fee for holding bags at the front desk after checking out, for example. The hotel doesn't want one to store anything in their fridge (it is a wet bar) and we were nearly charged for beverages we never consumed. They also insisted, for our rate, that we pay in cash rather than using a credit card for the second night we stayed. The front desk was also really pushing the restaurant and tours on us. I found this to be a bit annoying.
(4) A soap holder that was a fixture in the tub was gashed and duct tape simply covered the sharp edges of this damaged fixture. I asusme this was only temporary, but it took a little away from the ambiance of the room. This was the only real physical defect in the room.
(5) Another issue to consider is that the hotel does not have its own pool, although I believe guests can use the pool at a hotel nearby. We did not use this service however, as we decided to take a dip in the sea.
I would re-consider booking here because it was a solid place and was reasonably pirced, but might consider other alternatives in Capri to see if I could do better. On the whole, I would be quite content staying there again however.
Beautiful Hotel In Capri
from ggpigott
Love love love love loved this place! We will be going back as soon as we get a chance. This hotel was clean, pretty, and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was wonderful, and the view alone was worth every penny. We had an ocean view room, with a large balcony, and a comfy bed. The breakfast was the best we had in all of Italy. It is not far from everything, but you should be prepared to walk up a slight incline to get to the main strip of shops. (2 min walk at the most!) But you know what, don't go to Capri if you don't plan to walk up or down. That is the nature of the gem of an island called Capri.
Delighful

I have to totally disagree with the revue by the Milwaukee resident. My wife and i spent Two days at this hotel. We found it a pleasant experience. our room was upgraded at no extra cost ,breakfast and dinner was superb and the staff friendly and polite.
The only problem we encountered was that the hotel was difficult to find, if you are on a limited budget this hotel is highly recommended as it is a lot cheaper than others in Capri but does not compromise on quality.
A slice of Paradise
from DianeBee
We spent two nights at La Floridiana in September and wished we could have stayed much longer. This was the jewel of our Italy vacation - like stepping into the garden of eden. Our regular room had delightful crisp blue and white bed linens, drapes and upholstery and a cool tile floor. A large bathroom with nice amenities. The patio doors opened to a small terrace with a table and chairs and single lounge chair. The view is phenomenal! The ocean, the exotic gardens, the cliffs of Anacapri. There are some horrible little rooms across the hall with no view - I pray you don't get stuck there! The breakfast buffet is ok - rolls, eggs, cheese, yogurt, cookies, etc. The dinner meals are a bit weird - it was like an Agatha Christi novel with wierd characters. I would recommend eating instead at one of the lovely restaurants in town. There is a beautiful cliff side swimming pool two doors down that you can use for 10 euro. Capri is teeming with tourists and cruise ship types during the day, but at night has a romantic peaceful air about it. This hotel is a short (uphill) walk to the main pedestrian only streets that are lined with exclusive designer shops, Prada et al. We had arranged transfers from Naples train station to the port and from the port in capri to our hotel. It was a series of cars and trolleys and well worth the expense to not have to deal with it all.
Good value, nice location
from JWB_Amsterdam_NL
We stayed (with two small children) at La Floridiana in June 2003. It's not always easy to find a family-friendly hotel in an upscale place like Capri but we were very happy with La Floridiana. We splurged for a suite, which at about EUR 210/night (high season prices, you know) turned out to be a good deal: a huge room with 3 beds and a separate sitting area, large bathroom, nice patio with a view over the ocean.
They provided us with a baby crib for free, and were able to give us recommendations of decent places to eat that were less touristy than those mentioned in the guidebooks. The hotel is far enough away from the center of Capri that it was nicely quiet, but close enough that it's easy to walk to La Piazzetta and everywhere else in town. All in all, we were quite happy with it and felt like we got a good value for the money (especially for Capri in summer).
Great place for offseason!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We were in Capri during the offseason (last week of November). It was the absolute best time to be there - we felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. The weather was still good - 70 F or so. We stayed at the La Floridiana in the best room in the place. This was a two bedroom/two bathroom suite with a kitchenette with huge balcony overlooking the sea. Its my understanding that the room goes for $350USD during the regular tourist season but we got it for $100USD.
One of the best hotel rooms - with the view and all - that I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend this place especially if you are travelling in the low season!
