Hello Hello,
This entry comes just after a fun-filled, sunny weekend trip to the desert town of Ica, about 4 hours south of here. The trip started with the bus ride, which was on easily the nicest bus I've ever been on (it was the lowest of the three levels of service). We were at the front of the second floor, and received a complimentary drink and dinner, followed by tea or coffee. They also played two movies (Aquamarine--don't get me started on this one, it was horrendously engrossi...

Ica, Peru avi_einatWe drive though from the north of Lima and head to the south coast area for the next few days. A road side stop for lunch of bread with cheese and olives cooked in a woodfire oven is delicious. With stops it takes us about 5 hours to get to Huachachina, an oasis ...
Ica, Peru tlgaustralia... singing in spanish. Kept saying ´adios´ over and over again. Also heard lots of children chanting. Still not sure what was going on... Got up and went to the bus station and hopped on a bus to Ica. It was about 5 hours of sand dunes, desert and pacific ocean. Lots of cows and lots of very run-down houses ...
Ica, Peru lmhbeatles... ignoring our alarms, and when we went down for breakfast at 10.02am, we were told that breakfast had finished. *******s. Went off to Desert Nights for breakfast instead. This place is great, yet often we were served by this slightly retarded young lad who it appears is incapable of taking down an order for more than one person. Usual situation - the three of us order and then only two meals turn up. Another waiter then has to step in to remedy the situation ...
Huacachina, Ica, Peru alastair6... coming to this country!

400 pictures later, the parade was over and we were hungry. We went back to Norky´s and had our fill of roasted chicken, pisco sour and Inka Cola (for Jilly).

After lunch, we headed to Monasterio de San Francisco and took the tour of the 17th century monastery. It was amazing to see the original cloisters, choir, refectory and most of all, library of the monastery. The musty, old-book-smelling library houses 25,000 ...
Lima, Lima, Peru sakuyaini... of that meal was later today! Once we left the restaurant we found a number of place nearby that were as cheap, but with better menus and full of smiling locals (a lesson to be learnt there methinks).
We will be heading to one of those better looking places for dinner later and then getting some rest, because...Tomorrow we get up at 6:00 and then take a 4 hour bus journey to Ica and then a taxi to Hucachina for Shell's birthday. We can't wait!
Lima, Peru shellbell84... None of these cultures ever invented the written word, but the Moche culture, which was centered around Trujillo, was incredibly adapt with ceramics and the story of their everyday life is clearly demonstrated in their superb artistry. No need for words here. We also visit the gallery of erotic pottery. Even their sex lives are on show for all to see, and ...
Lima, Peru mmbcross... Lima Cricket Club to lounge by the pool with some of Ana's friends - including another nottingham uni girl! She and her husband invited me out to join them that evening for dinner and a movie - it was so nice feeling so welcomed here both by Ricardo and Ana and their warm friends. It was a great last evening before my flight that night at 1am... Well rested and ready I was on my way - next stop to non-stop Buenos Aires!!!
Lima, Peru nixandliz... go away no matter how many times I wash my hands. The horns keep blaring even when there is complete silence. And the dog won´t stop licking my feet. Central Lima was an onslaught of smells, sounds, sights. It made us want to just turn off one or more of our senses in hopes of a moment of peace. The distraught looks on our faces clearly screamed Sensory Overload!!! A constant state of - too much. The amount of vehicles ...
