... of the figures. Their significance has since been realised, and they are now UNESCO listed sites.

There are several figures, including a whale, a hummingbird, a monkey, and a dog. The strangest figure is a funny humanoid shape on the side of a mountain, which is dubbed "the astronaut". It really does look like a human with a helmet on! Now, I'm not really one for conspiracy theories, but it does make one almost believe that there ...

... visit. However the advice that we avoid Huacachina was priceless. The town where I had spent several days in 2009 was now a messy, rubbish littered collection of half completed buildings surrounding a dirty lake which smelt of effluent. I love waking up to the sound of the waves in my tent on an isolated beach, an experience I'd have about six mornings between Quito and Santiago. Camping is work, though, and the morning camp chores of taking down your tent and putting the tents on the roof, packing the back locker, making camp breakfast and cleaning up, and finding a private spot to go potty always seem the most unpleasant.

From Paracas it was a short drive to Ica, the center of Peru’s pisco ...

Since we all had Monday off from classes making it a long weekend we decided to make a trip out of it. We stayed Thusday and Friday night to say our last goodbye's to a friend from the house who was leaving to study in Canada and then packed up Sa************** to Lunahuana. We were a group of 9 in total and therefore ended up taking two cars, only needing to rent one additional. It was about a 3 hour drive give or take, depending on the time spent trying to read the GPS.. ...
