Leaving Mopti...

... Coolboy says he can get my money back. And I'll go in a bush taxi (a pick-up truck). I doubt there will be any money refunded, but it's worth a try, so after dumping my gigantic rucksack in an office at the gare routiere, we head to the Somatra station. Arguments occur, in Bamana. Voices are raised. People start to look. I say it's ok, it's ok! After all, it's less than 6 euros and to be honest I don't mind paying that twice to NOT sit at a highway junction for indefinite ...

Mopti and the melting bus

... that this type of trek tends to end up as... and I wouldn't want to do it on my own... and I want to spend more time in Burkina Faso... so... unless I change my mind, I'll pass!

It's also FAR too hot to trek, I think, max temperature here (and it'd be hotter in the Dogon Country) = 41 degrees. Plus it's meant to rain the next three days (YAY! It might be cooler!!)..

Oh, my hour of over-priced internet is up, I'm off in search of water!

From Snowy Bristol to Hot Hot Mali

Sunday 8th February and heavy snow forecast for Bristol ! Wand**ing around Waitrose in Malv**n, trying to think of last minute things to take on this trip to the West African country of Mali, and a call came through- " We're leaving earli** because the weath** forecast isn't good!" So I grabbed some little packets of sweets for gifts and headed off to Hay on Wye to meet Chris, Steve and Sue with their daught** Freya -my traveling ...

Boubacar / Mackenzie

While chilling out at Boubacar's house I was intrigued to know a bit more about my guide and what life was really like to be an African. I seemed to have found myself a local celebrity however, so I don't think his story was very representative of the masses. The first day I was in Mopti, Boubacar was showing me around and so many people were saying hello to him. This seemed fairly common with the guides ...

Bamako or Bust

... one as a living space. No sink or bathroom, the building had communal drop toilets and for washing a concrete room with a hole in the floor. His mates and fellow tour guides would drop in and out all of the time for a tea or a sit down. It was v**y much like life in our student days. And the rooms w**e similar in their hodge podge style of furniture and decoration. I sat in his flat watching some TV waiting for 2pm to roll around ...

A fish tail or a fish head with your rice?

... do, except read, and take in the v**y nice view of the riv** and the shore. The riv** ***** is huge, and it s quite extraordinary that such a vast amount of wat** flows through one of the driest countries in the world. During the second day, we travelled through an inland delta, a massive lake, and saw a huge eagle (and oth** nice birds, but I can t name them). The countryside changes quite rapidly between ...

Day 43 45 - Mali, Djiguibombo - Dogon Trek

... was Mum Kates. Due to Kristy's state we didn't risk her climbing up the dodgy ladder to the roof so moved her mattress down and walked/carried her to bed just before midnight. A most interesting night, especially with Kristy's revelations that Sam was lazy, Mike rich, Jamie and *******, Mum beautiful and me lovely. Thankfully it was all put down to drunkenness and no offence was taken... at least I don't think so. I would like to say Jamie's birthday ...

The oth** truck also arrived at Via Via as they are doing Timbuktu as the same time as us, on a guided tour though taking one of the local long boats th**e and 4x4 back which should mean they'll arrive as we leave. on vous avait promis de continuer à alimenter le blog. On tiendra nos engagements.
