... from the town of Baños, where I currently am staying, into Puyo, the gateway to the Amazon. We passed dozens of waterfalls, hiked through the green (and I mean GREEN!) hills, and rode our bikes with jaws dropped as we saw eagles soar overhead and watched the landscape of the hills change as we got deeper into the jungle. All of that beauty was free! Another way to skirt higher cost tourist-traps is to do things on your own. A week ago ...

... pointed to the other side of the road where another bus was parked up, so we headed over.

I say we headed over, but it was more like a game of Frogger, trying to dodge the never ending traffic to get to the central reservation, to then try and get across the otherside. When we got there the bus was indeed going to Baņos and as soon as we boarded the bus left. The bus seemed to be in a hurry, they all are, and whilst we have had plenty of dodgy bus drivers before I don't ...

... to some festival with her new found best friends! Maybe I shouldn't judge, I might try it one day and join a circus the next. So on meeting Stephen from Ireland we decided that we would make a dash for the Ecuadorian border and try to reach Otavalo the next day. I would be a long day but there wasn't much to stop for on route. The first part of our journey involved a 5 hour drive to Pasto along a road called the trampoline of death. It is a spectacular road, clinging to ...
