Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... my legs. How good was that?!!

I then spent a couple of hours at the Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, about 5 kms from Menaggio. The villa was built at the end of the 17th century. It apparently attained the summit of its splendor in the 19th century when it became an essential inclusion in the "Grand Tour". I don't know how she ended up with it, but in 1843 Princess Marianna of Prussia gave it as a wedding present to her daughter ...

... took photos with the group. Back on the bus to the hotel in Lake Maggiore (called Grand Dino), back by 4.30pm, rest the out to a restaurant nearby for dinner with a few of the group, Peter had seafood pasta and I had vegetarian cannelloni. Bought bracelets for gifts back home, walked through to the sister hotel ...
