Puerto Viejo - Schotterpisten, Strand & easy life

It always comes down to monkey's ....

... supermercado and stock up for the night. We cook a huge feast by candellight .... the sound of the jungle complimenting the reggae mix that we're listening to. After dinner we relax in the hammocks and read books (so this is what it's like without TV?!). We hit bed around 9:30 .... and ok, now it's the jungle times TEN! The craziest sounds you've ever heard in your life ... hauting sounds of screaming monkey's ... it's like the show LOST, except ...

... wrong. Well I was right. ((sigh)). But karma always works its way out, one way or another, whether you believe it or see it or not. And so it goes.

Like Jamaica there are lots of dogs here....unlike Jamaica, there are a gazillion different breeds too. Small ones, big ones, short haired ones, long haired ones. And also unlike Jamaica, they are mostly well cared for; at least fed and better tolerated. Even the strays don't look emaciated, as if someone is ...

... of vacation with me. The trip from Tamarindo to San Jose was a painful nine to ten hours ride. I had the choice of a 'direct' chicken bus at 3:30 or 5:30......am! Or a series of different buses from town to town. The main problem was the bad state of the majority of roads from Tamarindo to San Jose. As I knew mum wanted to rent a car anyway, I created a new option which was driving to San Jose with a rental car. It also allowed me to give a ...

Los Osos Perezosos

... Buttercup, but found little. Still, Buttercup survived, and as word spread, more injured and orphaned sloths were brought by neighbors to their home. The center was officially established in 1997, and is recognized by the government of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Environment and Mines (MINAE.) The tour included a guided canoe tour, an informational film, some hands-on interaction with Millie, Spiderman, Nala, and Toyota, and a chance to see the ...

We arrived at Puerto Viejo yesterday. The last night in Cahuita included Massage Man (who was obsessed with natasha) talk constantly about energies and how he wanted to wake up natasha to change her energy, which also meant that he wanted to sleep with her. We played truth or dare, Massage Man was dared to thrust around the road outside the bar. Directly opposite the bar is a bench for all the drunk ...

Steffi arrives - Happy 40th Birthday!

... stuff stolen when they left their door open. This caused a bit of a psychologic problem with Steffi (probably a mix of jet lag with the clash of a new culture) who kept seeing people looking into the room at night...he didnt sleep much!! Apparently the guard did look in (whether he was checking to see if everything was OK or if it was to commit a crime we dont know...). In any case we all enjoyed a relaxing long dinner at a seaside ...

Back to the Caribbean coast...

... is basically the ferry wharf to the Islands. The guy told us the Collectivo would be a $1 each. Not to Bills liking as the Lonely planet said 60c he went off in a huff (and I let him let of some steam). When he got back we went to a taxi whom claimed it would be $6 so we hung our heads in shame and eventually got the collectivo for $1 each.. We arrived at the wharf and headed over. Lucky for us we ...

Beach Bum Mon

The past two days of lounging on the beach and around the hostel have been mighty relaxing. The mixture of Costa Rican and Caribbean influences here in food, appearance, and language is interesting. Tomorrow is time to ride the buses and boat to Panama.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

... the Caribbean. We finally arrived in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, about 6 kilometers from the Panama border in the far south-eastern corner of Costa Rica, around mid-afternoon. This small village is a beach lover's paradise. The waters close to shore are almost crystal clear and the temperature of the water was perfect for escaping the heat and humidity of the climate. The white sand beaches were almost deserted, save for a few areas directly in front of ...
