... big enough for a few guns, had been built. The walk through Porta Venere had a church right out on the point and the remains of what would have been an imposing castle on the top of the hill. ... the questionable 'honour' of looking over Vladimir Putin's holiday place on the waterfront - we kid you not! The apartment itself is lovely, the balcony with the most brilliant views across the lake, runs from the living area through to the master bedroom, and we have just sat through (wine in hand) the most fabulous sunset and now the lights up and down the lake are a glittering sight to behold. Can hardly wait for sunrise tomorrow.

We tick off a few more villages today. The third, Corneglia requires climbing 365 steps up to the town. Vernazza was affected by flooding in 2011 and is still recovering, though today was filled with tourists.

Unfortunately due to landslides many sections of the walk that connects the 5 villages are closed. Only one remains open connecting Vernazza to Monterosso and this happens to be the longest stretch. ...
