... for the train to Bordeaux where we will change trains and head to La Rochelle for 2 nights before we say goodbye to them and start on our cycling tour. Now that we're out of the sun and not moving around much, we're all a bit tired so there will probably be some gentle snoring occurring on the train in is afternoon ;). The train journey started slow, had a bit of a panicked rush in the middle and ended slow. After about a 2 hour wait ...

... a look around in the souvenir shop then head out for the day, just before lunch. There are only 5 locks to go through today, although there are two doubles and they are all downstream which seems a bit easier. ... the view that was rather like looking up from the drain in a sink: there just seemed to be walls in every direction. Mercifully, though, eventually the col was reached, photos were taken, and the final descent of the day began.

The pinging of gravel as I picked up speed on the chip and seal surface inspired little confidence, but when whole patches of gravel started covering the ...

DAY 8/June 21: Les, Spain to Oust

... top there was a spring providing cold, drinkable water--nice! So we stopped, reloaded, did the usual photos and continued on.

I don't exactly remember the name of the town where we found a small, quiet bar that was actually open where we sat down to some sandwiches and a salad, but it seemed to me that we were even more lucky than usual to find a place open between noon and 2pm with it being Sunday. Now refuelled, we were good to ...
