Palermo... do yourself a favour and visit

... still tasty.

Got back at 4am and then had to get up at 8am on Sunday to catch a train to Cefalu with Nonie, Laura from Philadelphia and Jay from Hawaii.
Hiked up La Rocca mountain for awesome views over Cefalu. Lunch at one of the only places open in Cefalu and then dinner with the whole hostel at one of Giuseppe's favourite places. Unfortunately I was so tired by then from lack of sleep and hiking all day that I didn't fully ...

Getting ready to go to Rome

WE depart Sicily with wonderful memories of sunny skies, blue Mediterranean seas, green hillsides covered with grape vines and olive trees, old cities, castles and greek temples, and of course good food.
We will see more sights in Rome, and then travel down the coast to Sorrento and Amalfi. I will post more about the things we are doing and seeing as we continue our trip.

day trip to Mt Etna & Taormina

... the hot sun and also from a couple of rain showers! The local pizza was to die for!!

We had time after lunch to saunter thru more picturesque streets before finally meeting up with Marco for the 2.5 hr drive back along the northern coastline to Palermo. Another wonderful day, finished off by 45 minutes of peakhour traffic from city outskirts to our hotel! A real shame that our time in Sicily was at an end....4.45am wakeup call arranged for tomorrow morning departure.

day to ourselves around Palermo

After another good breakfast, and enjoyed a chat with an Aussie couple from Perth at the restaurant (we really made the most of conversing with other English-speaking people for the first time in a week...amazing how cut-off you can feel at times when in unfamiliar surroundings where everyone speaks another language!)

We walked down the street a short distance to catch one of the many & varied city bus lines to get to Palermo's famous resort beach of Mondello ...

excellent day trip to Segesta, Erice & Trapani

After a nice breakfast at the hotel (included in the overnight tariff), we were picked up by our guide for the day, Salvatore (once again, we turned out to be the only people taking this particular tour today, so we ended up being personally escorted all day!)

Travelled 70km to ancient Segesta, marvelling at the hilltop township ruins, famous Segesta temple, beautiful Segesta theatre taking in magnificent views over towards the coastline, across large surrounding ...

Viva la Mafia

If you have doubts whether the mafia is still working... I don't.
Palermo is a charming mediterranean city, his highlights are so great, his Cathedral is amazing, but try not to get lost in the streets... we saw a peculiar street market and we decided to ...

Stromboli - Fireworks

The next morning was clear and beautiful! The rain had washed everything down and cleared the air. We were up early and knew we would head to Milazzo to get a ferry to Stromboli. Franco and Valentina came up with a plan. They would drop their son at his daycare and then drive us to Milazzo! It was a wonderful offer since a taxi would be very expensive. So, off we went to the daycare and to find a bank to change some cash for Tom. It took ...
