      Steps, steps, steps...

      We arrived at Riomaggiore on a 30 degree day,
      realised there was no taxi and hiked uphill dragging the luggage to our hotel.
      Only to find out that our room was on the third floor and Hercules (me) had to
      carry the suitcases up 3 levels of stairs as there was no lift! Lidi was not happy!

      ... time, the whole area had been under construction and you couldn't get close to the tower (it was leaning too much). Well, I guess, after a few failed attempts they were able to straighten it (just kidding!). At least the tower is now stable and the whole area around it is much nicer.       From Volastra, the walk is mainly downhill following a contour path round the rolling hills covered in vineyards that produce most of the wine for the Cinque Terre region. These hills are very steep and we wondered how thay managed to tend the vineyards on an ongoing basis let alone secure a harvest once a year.
