... cheese bread. It was lovely but very rich!

After a nice chilled 3 days in Popayan we were on the bus to Cali, this time only a short 3 hour trip :-) Cali is a big city surrounded by mountains, but not being at such high altitude like Bogota the weather was hot! We only had 2 days, 1 night here as we wanted to cut the journey up to Medellin. We were gutted we only had 1 night in Cali as our guest house was stunning, a piece of heaven in a busy city. The ...

The bars opened their windows and pumped out music coupled ...

After spending the day killing time in Quito, we had dinner with our new favourite friends and headed off to catch our night bus into Colombia. We had heard it wasn't particularly safe travelling by bus in Colombia at night because of risk of hijacking and armed robbery, so we were a bit apprehensive, but we'd decided it was probably safer than the alternative journey involving several local buses and a taxi. The journey was fine in the end - it took about 20 hours and the ...

... policeman (forensic photographer) on his day off. He told us his son is collecting international money so I gave him various notes from Egypt, India, etc that I had on me and some NZ coins. He loved this, and then offered to take us around his city. He didn't speak any English so it was a good chance for us to practice some Spanish. He took us all over the place and he was obviously well known in town as ...
