On a (very) early Saturday morning we checked out of our hotel in Nantes wearing ski jackets and flew to the south side of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. We stopped in town at an 8 story department store called El Corte Ingles and made our way up the escalators to the top floor where we got a panoramic view of the city and port from the cafeteria. One day we took a boat tour out to see the whales. It was a nine person yacht and we were on with an Irish family and a Russian family – very multicultural! ... sunset approach to Lanzarote. And when we finally did reach La Palma, the timing was perfect for a sunrise view of Santa Cruz. I knew, however, that my hotel room was reserved from 5pm, and it was only 8am. What to do? Well, explore! My next stop after Santa Cruz was to hop back on the bus and head all the way across to the West of the island to Puerto Tazacorte – the sunniest place on the island.
