A nice leisurely morning in Cusco before we took our short flight to Arequipa in Southern Peru, built at the foot of El Misti Volcano. Our hotel is yet again fabulous, (La Casa de mi Abuela Hostal 3 stars on Ave Jerusalen 606 telephone 51.51.241.206 email lacasa@terra.com.pe) it has very ornate gardens and small rooms, it is a bit of a maze to navigate but nonetheless very enjoyable. We enjoy a game of table tennis before dinner in the Zig Zag restaurant. This meal is probably one of the most...
Arequipa, Peru adelineIīm staying at Casa de la Abuela in Huancayo, in one of the dorm rooms with 5 other people. This city is beautiful! The altitude is about 3500 Meters... and coming from Lima overnight Iīm feeling pretty tired, especially since my overnight bus was full of sad babies and I didnīt get a minute of sleep. Luchos, the son of the woman who started this hostal has showed us all around. Yesterday, my first day here, we went to the orpahange, a couple pf housing projects Luchos has set up, and were lu...
Hauncayo, Peru amyleighI arrived in the warmer and more oxygen plentiful Arequipa. I have to admit that at my first sight of the volcanoes looming over the city, I said, "No way am I staying here very long." I really miss the ocean. It's not like I went often when I was in San Francisco, but it was always there, just a 5-10 minute car-ride or a 45 minute walk. But my hotel was nice. My room wasn't great, but the grounds were beautiful; I spent many hours in a hammock. After a few days, I asked the man at the front ...
Arequipa, Peru dissipatedfogThe bus ride to Huancayo was awful. I was a little ill to start with and as we climbed in altitude, I really suffered. I was sick in the toilet on the bus and for some reason my fillings started to give me pain. I finally got off the hellish bus journey which was made 100 times worse by the terrible film we were forced to watch about a kid who had trained his dog to the extent where it became an international spy dog, and all in dubbed Spanish too. As I walked to find a hostel I felt very fai...
Imponerende alligevel!
- For at forklare gaardsdagens paran...
Arequipa is the first city we got into that was out of the highlands and back down to normal altitudes. It has been weeks since we were at sea level and we finally are feeling that tropical warmth that I was expecting from this trip. I mean it was freaking snowing the day before we arrived in Arequipa! Not what I was expecting... And the Aussies we are with had never seen snow before in their lives and they are about 60 years old! I canīt wait to get to Quito and mail home all my wintry cloth...
Arequipa, Peru nerdelyiHi there everyone! Well we've left Nazca on the overnight bus and what a delightful (weird) experience that was. The bus itself was great, complete with stewardess to look after us and give us breakfast in the morning - but that's if you can call a cold hotdog roll breakfast! Great for vegetarians! Anyway, some of us got some sleep, especially on the straight roads but once the bends started so did the swaying particularly on the top deck After leaving Nazca at 11.30pm we arrived in Arequipa ...
Arequipa, Peru nicpam... t planning on staying in Nasca that night, but we didn't have a choice as the new part was going to be shipped over to us and hopefully fixed that night. The Nasca lines are lines that were made into the desert sands thousands of years ago, no one really knows how or why, but they are there. The only way to see them properly is by aeroplane, but as it coasts $70 US, we weren't going to go. We did get to see a couple of them by looking off a viewing ...
