Martine drove us through the Pyrenées into Spain, this morning. We explored San Sebastián and then had tapas for lunch. It was fun to try out our Spanish. We found a great ice cream shop and also bought some souvenirs. From there, we went back into France and spent some time in Saint Jean de Luz. ... town square with the church in one corner, fully restored and refurnished. The chapel on the hill, where he slept on the altar, was still there, again restored, but closed up so we could not see that famous altar. What the town did lack though, being a Sunday morning, was a cup of coffee, so we had to drive on a further 20 miles to Albacete in search of caffeine. ... after all. There was also a special exhibition of the life and works of Edouard Debat-Ponsan. Who? You know, the celebrated French Impressionist/Pre-Raphaelite/Tissot lookalike and supporter of Dreyfus, who lived 1847 to 1913. No, we had not heard of him either, but his paintings were certainly worth seeing.

... half way through the night the van was swaying so much we got out in PJ's and moved the van behind a bigger van to protect us a bit (we are always the smallest van by far in these places as loads of massive campervans everywhere bigger than mums!!) - this helped a bit but still battered all night leaving us with little sleep!

... sunny and only a little cloud. We explored some of the coastal towns which were really busy with holiday makers, fishermen and surfers. This area of France was also interesting because of the Basque history. The houses were quite different and a lot of the streets were named in Basque language too.
