... walked... 1 hour later we were so close to the hotel that we just walked the rest of the way... it was about 5 km... not bad!!!
We got to the hotel and they let us check in right away (9am), it was sweet... we checked in and then walked to the medival city (that we passed but couldn't see in the fog), the city was about a kilometer away, we walked up to it and WOW, thats all >I can say... if you are ever in the South of France or passing through, you NEED to go there ...

The Medieval City

... thats for sure. The only thing I missed was getting rid of the smoke smell from burning the fields and having the bon fire at Kwantu!
We had some time to waste still until our train left to head for Venice...so we found an internet cafe and spent some time in there, and then made our way to the train station. We got on our train to Venice which had a few stops and transfers to get there...but eventually we'll make it there!

Talk to you from Venice!

Day Visit to Carcassonne

... every place where we have stayed for only one night. Claude and his family were very nice and we were very welcomed in their home. We took a group picture and then began the short jaunt to Carcassonne. We were their in 45 minutes. The view from the highway was spectacular!! I would have loved to have gotten a picture from there, but alas, I did not. The city started as a ...

1st night.

Well, finally - after a false start setting out to pick up friends from Pau airport a day early! - first night: moored up alongside the Canal du Midi, just south of Beziers. Some very noisy ducks for company... Bit of a gloomy one weather-wise. Rained last night, but forecast suggests brightening up gradually as day goes on. Slowing our departure from ...

Spectacular Castle

... the bus station (actually no station, just parking spots for the buses). There are a few interesting sites I wanted to see so I search for the Tourist Office to grab a map thinking I might have to take my big pack with me for the next hour. I go to the office of the bus service to get some info. Long line so I decide to leave my bag there while I find the tourist service. The office is hard to find and aways away. I end up spending 30 minutes touring the sites. I return to ...

Fortress, Spaniards and icky toilets!

Sunday August 23rd – We arrived at the old town of Carcassone at about 4:30pm and we had a couple of hours to wander around and explore the place. Carcassone is a town within the walls of an old fortress built in the first century BC which was restored in the 1800's and turned into a bustling tourist town.

Our first stop was the toilets as there were a few of us needing to use the amenities. We really wished that we didn’t need to. These were possibly the most ...

I will fong you!

I had the day off yesterday (a nice little treat because to be honest the work is so cruisey it hardly feels like work at all) and went to the city of Carcassonne. It was very cool.

There are two parts to it, the old and the new. The old city is a full on medieval castle with a wall around it, it was awesome wandering ...

awesome!

Holy **** - I love it here! It is so cool and has such a great atmosphere.

Everyone here is so friendly and it becomes like a family even though the guests are only here for a little while. Yesterday we spent the entire afternoon sitting in a river drinking bottles of Champagne which people had just bought from a vineyard next to the river ...

... why not" and headed up the hil like mountain goats with Graeme and Sam leading the way. We made it to the top and were rewarded with great views and a sense of achievement (I guess)

After we got back down it was off to the lovely town of Salasc for a couple of well earned beers before heading back to the house for a late night session of chewing the fat and reminiscing

Carcassonne to La Muse

... be missed. A blue car pulled up, a man stepped out, looked right at me and said, "You must be Cindy." John. He had a delightful Irish brogue and a warm grin that made me feel right at home. I liked him instantly. And I found out my surveying was in vain; I was the only person being picked up. John and his wife Kerry own and operate La Muse and live there along with their twin five-year-old boys, Seamus (Shay-mus) and Fionne, and their dog Homer. John is a transplant ...
