Plan was to stay in Avignon but when we arrived we decided it was too big for us and after driving around the outide of the ramparts of the old city walls - very cool and the main thing we wanted to see - we made our way onwards to Fontaine de Vaucluse which is 20kms past Avignon. We arrived just before dark and found an Aire de Service at the edge of town where settled in for 2 days. The town ...
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France darrenhough74... t speak french: baguette, coffee, pan de chocolate, fresh squeezed oj, all fresh fresh fresh. Then we hit the market, vendors were begging us to try free samples of meat, cheese, honey, fruit, olives, you name it. Needless to say, we found our lunch for the day.
Oh; did I forget to mention it was Halloween? Not that it really matters, since the french do NOT really understand what halloween is. We decided to not even ...

Anyway, behind us was a French man who emitted a loud sigh every time my friend shuffled the cards, as it seems the shuffling was making too much noise. So, we shuffled them a new way to lessen having to listen to his loud sighs.

Our train finally arrived in Avignon, albeit 30 minutes late, which seems to be unusual over here. We hauled our bags out the station and waited in a line with several ...
Avignon, Provence, France trockie... full of huge luxury yachts. No sign of Jonny Wilkinson though...maybe next weekend! The mountain area was also very pretty, definitely motorbike/cycling country (Dad, you'd love it, Eileen, the bends and drops are scary!), but although pretty, I still find the landscape up there quite arid and hostile...wouldn't feel quite as comfortable peeing in a bush up there as I would in a gorse bush on Exmoor (don't look like that, needs must)!

And now a little bit about ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France cft89... we were nearly blown to Marseille. Tomorrow we are going on a lunchtime cruise on the Rhone with more food and wine and before that visiting the famous bridge and hopefully we will have time to go over to see the nearby fort in the afternoon.

Then we start the final run north - first a night at Beaujolais, then 2 nights at Strasbourg and one last night at Munich before we leave Big ...
Avignon, Provence, France falkewindBonjour avec Aix-en-Provence Cherie
Since the last news we have visited the Cote D'Azur spending time at Monte Carlo and Antibes. We stayed near Antibes at a place called Biot and at night you could hear the seals at nearby Marineland - very strange. It was still quite hot and stickey with more mozzies. Monte Carlo was wall to wall money with billions of dollars in boats and cars. Antibes was similar but it had a lovely old town as well.
We arrived ...

Avignon, Provence, France qyzhang... I suppose the French must love their pets more than Americans; no one complained or fussed. And, of course, no one in our party fed the animals. It's 11:30 now (2:26 PM on the Pacific coast). The city is very quiet. It really shuts down at night, plus it also takes some time getting started in the morning. Hopefully I'll get up early enough to upload this latest adventure, along with some nice pix. Then it's on to another day in this idyllic paradise.
Lacoste, France dgookin... stones, and abandoned basements we could peek into. It was nearing sunset and the place was pretty quiet, but provided us a beautiful view of the surround fields and farms. We took a peek inside the church - the tackiest one we saw on our trip - decorated with mismatched wall paper and dusty relics. We were startled to hear the sound of the door being locked for the night, and had to quickly rush out to avoid spending the night in the gloomy chapel.
