... other side of the road than we are used to. We were amazed at the old town of Trogir as it was just so beautiful and striking. We couldn't stop oohing and ahhing every time we turned a corner and saw another narrow alley with history oozing out of the walls. It was a bustling popular place but amongst all the history and touristy shops there were businesses going about their daily business, hairdressers and optometrists, which seemed so ...

... know what to do then" with a cheeky grin (indicating that a happy wife is the most important thing). Al liked him straight away.

He pointed us in the direction of the ticket booth for the ferry (which we planned on catching the next day to Hvar) and once we had bought them it was almost time to hit the hay. The mountains in the distance were coloured blue, grey and orange, accompanied by a mellow bit of Genesis on Red's cranky stereo. We even communed with the ancients, when the sunlight beamed directly and dazzlingly down the tunnel we were driving through like some monument that receives direct sun only once a year at such and such a time. Split, Croatia's second largest city. We are staying right in the middle of things - inside the walls of Diocletian's Palace. The massive Roman monument is a Unesco World Heritage Site and forms the hub of a very slick tourist precinct. Every square inch of the place is, hostels, apartments, cafes, restaurants, shops. All this is a living city set among the temples, crypts, towers, mausoleum and pavilion of the emperor's palace. The oldest of ...
