We left the hotel at 9:15, with cloudy skies, 73 degrees heading west for the ocean. There was very little traffic in Anaheim, but that changed in Huntington Beach. The streets are laid out in a grid pattern which is nice.

We had a 0700 start out of Blythe to beat the heat. Rode south for 35 miles (56 kms) before we hit a roadblock mounted by the US Border Patrol. There had been some flash flooding & there was water on the road. The Border patrolman told us the roadblock was just because of water on the road. Dan was our waiter for linner when we arrived on Friday, so we requested a table in his area. We enjoyed lamb shank (wonderful taste, very tender - a shout out to the Sloane's "why don't we eat more lamb?") and a strawberry rhubarb cobbler.
