.It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. (Apologies to Messrs Dickins and Groening.)

Our trip started rather inauspiciously, something that Sam mysteriously foretold in the previous blog. After some teary farewells, we headed through the departure gates towards our Jetstar plane, eager for the journey ahead. What fools we …

Low season in Koh Lanta

... first stop was the islands longest beach to catch some more sun rays for a couple of hours before we hit the road again for the 30minute drive to the 'Old Town' area.

The Old Town was full of beautiful old wooden buildings, some of which had decks that stretched out over the sea. It reminded us of a thai version of Whitstable, although the palm trees in the background made it some what more exotic! Yet again we felt the effects of low season as a number of the shops ...

... runs Time for Lime - an on-site Thai cooking school, plus bar and restaurant which each day of the week serves up a different six course tasting-menu for dinner. Farsai, the bartender at Time for Lime, is the inventor of a drink called the Chilli Margarita, and if you allow one of its tiny red ingredients to sit on your tongue you could burn a hole through it in minutes. LaLaanta was a haven for us. After our airline lost our baggage, we were lucky to be staying in a place which cares so well for its guests. Thanks to Shicko and the staff for their help.
The resort itself is gorgeous - right on the beach with glorious sunsets at night. It never felt overrun with guests and we could always find beach lounges where we wanted, either y the pool or on the beach itself.
It's such a beautiful place, we hope to return one day.
