... then headed to Tupelo, Mississippi. We weren’t crazy about driving at night but God blessed us with a beautiful light show. And then it rained…. But we are settled in our Tupelo hotel now looking forward to another full day tomorrow.
When we heard about the tornado in Tupelo a few weeks ago, I had called the hotel to see if they were open, and they said they were. But just barely! We were astonished as we arrived there - the tornado destruction was only a few blocks away. Terrible ...
The time came for us to leave New Orleans and so we packed up, loaded the car and headed north out of the city.
But first, we needed to drive through the Ninth Ward. It felt wrong to be seeking out evidence of the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, 8 1/2 years ago, but it was now a part of the historical fabric of New Orleans.
