      Back on the Turnpike, we continued home. Pretty soon, we were crossing into Missouri (hooray!) and found an Applebee’s for lunch. Nice friendly town, that Joplin. They seem to be mostly rebuilt from the tornado. The Mercy hospital is nearly finished. Good for Joplin and its people.

      ... saying all along that once we got to St Louis that the weather would change. Malcolm wasn't convinced...... and gradually during the journey the temperature crept up and up. We arrived at the hotel approx 5:15pm having travelled 334.1 miles.

      Opposite the hotel was Bandana's BBQ restaurant. All the food they cook is done over a Hickory wood fire - gorgeous! And to top it off, we got a very pleasant sunset too.

      Well, after driving roughly 14 hours, including eating time and a little sightseeing, Alex is now zipped in the tent while I am relaxing with a cold beer, typing this, and feeding Mosquitos.
