Our first day of real rain and it doesn't look like its going to go away. Well, we just had to gear up and get on with the plans - a 42km bike ride around the lake. My run in Lyon had started my cough up again and I was sure it was the polluted air so I was keen to get out and exercise in this beautiful clear mountain air and suck it in, so we set off at noon to 'do the loop'. It wasn't cold and only a fine rain so we were able to shelter easily, keeping dry until we got ...
Got up and had breakfast in hotel. Bread toast orange coffee. Lovely breakfast. Drove through beautiful mountains to Grenoble and then onto Annecy. Got hotel Best Western. Lovely room. Bought milk in Spar and food in garage. . Went for walk to old town. Had creeps. Cold Walked and sat by lake. Back to hotel. Lovely ...

It had rained most of the night but the skies cleared shortly after I started and by 11 it was shorts and suntan lotion. There ...

When we rocked up at 12 noon, they were not ready so Luc took us out the back for a tour of his own troboule and in only 2-3 words of English explained its use in the resistance, the work of various tenants now, mainly ...
... about 10 miles from Verbier, a well-known skiing area. As usual it took a ridiculously large amount of effort to get somewhere to sleep. No surprise that there was no-one in the religious house. No campsite here so I went berserk and booked into the only B and B. There something about being soaked and cold that just puts me off wild camping. Nice dinner was a bonus. Could sort of justify both by the big climb tomorrow up to the Italian border at the Great St Bernard's ...
