    I wake up at 6am in the Albergo Cavalieri del Tau in Altopascio , Italy. After a quick breakfast I am on the road soon after 8am.

After a walk through the grounds we took a quick look at the machinery that would be put to use once the harvest starts in a couple of weeks and then it was down to the caves where the wine is stored and aged.     ... gradually tiring from km after km of 8-9% gradient. Being savvy cycle tourists, we were only carrying the bare essentials, including 4 kilometer stone souvenirs from our previous 4 mountain passes, 2 toy cats, 3 Lego men, 4 spare breakfasts, 4 spare lunches and 2 spare dinners.     ... amp; rainy. We passed a big ski resort Valberg. Once over the top the Italian route down was narrow and it seems they're not so keen on edging the road! It was thick cloud and visibility was pretty poor! We made it down in one piece, phew! Don't think we'll do it again in a hurry!
