Beer fest!

Today we were unable to go to the lavender fields like we had planned, so we improvised. Sapporro being the beer capital of Japan, we headed to the beer museum. Fascinating though it was, we were still below Japan's drinking age and therefore felt a little left out of the festivities. The beer museum was adjacent to a crazy huge shopping mall and we needed some lunch, so we decided to head in. We grabbed some ...

Sitting patiently and eating our doughnuts and such, we noticed we had several guests. About ten billion pigeons and four or five NASTY, ENORMOUS crows. After trying fervently to kick these pigeons, we noticed we had drawn a crowd of giggling school girls. They were none too subtle about staring at us and ...

Then, this just reminded me of the Issey Miyake's article on the New York Times.

I've never been to Hiroshima yet.

I came to Sapporo last year with my friends. On the last day, I went to visit the Ainu museum in Shiraoi by myself. Since then, I got in the PhD program, and I am focusing on the indigenous issues. Ainu culture is such beautiful. I got so much interest in their culture since then. This time, I came to Sapporo to meet up with more people. Haruzo from Kimitsu had me connect with Nanako. She's a graduate student at the Hokkaido University. We talked on the phone. She ...

... fish market. This trip to the fish market we decided to opt for the ultra fresh sushi. Next to the place we had eaten previously was a little three person sushi bar where the the fish was cut in front of you and made into sushi. The sushi at this micro bar was the best of my life. Tuna, salmon, salmon roe, it all delighted the taste buds. I think the experience may have made me a sushi snob. The sushi was so good I was tempted to smoke my first cigarette after it ...

... to specify your location (ie, North 4, West 2). The locus of the whole system is the "famous" Sapporo clock tower. Supposedly, you are provided with the "3rd best view in all of Japan" from its platform. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to see this for myself. I was staying just a few blocks to the west of Sapporo Station, the giant transit hub of the city. Sapporo (like all major and minor Japanese cities) has an excellent, and timely, transportation system. From ...
