Traveling from Chamonix to Lake Annecy we went through some breathtaking views through the Alps. The city is quite gorgeous, a favorite Lakeside destination for French families in summer. After a walk through 'Little Venice' taking the sights of a town voted the most beautiful in France, i had a lovely lunch of the local (from Nice) Niçoise salad in a central location before taking the one hour boat trip on the lake. We saw the ...

... br> We have an amazing view from our ground floor window, looking north-west over a river valley, what we think is the historic village of Mont Dauphin and "Le Pelvoux", at about 4,000m high, imposing in the distance.

Today was a relatively short ride down from Briançon, up and over Col d'Izoard and then a long gentle valley road to Guillestre.

... A few cyclists passed us on the way to the top. It's a fairly constant 7% for the whole 12 km. At the top of every col so far there has been someone who has offered to take a photo for us, Col du Télégraphe was no exception.

We donned an extra layer and enjoyed a smooth ride down to Valloire, where we found a patisserie that would easily accommodate our bike without a lot of faffing around, and offered some outside tables in the sun.

    I had a slice of ...

... and his stunning girlfriend had lunch with us at an Irish pub which surprised us with the good food. It was a jolly time on a beautiful sunny day out in the street.

Onwards we pushed to the Alps with the scenery getting increasingly spectacular. Soaring massive mountains parted for us as we cruised up the valley alongside a rushing river. The object of desire was the climb of the Alpe d'Huez of Tour de France claim. We luckily missed out on the angry black ...
