Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope everyone is having a great time eating turkey and watching football back home :). I'm in a country where we aren't subjected to the awful sport of football fortunately. Unfortunately they don't typically celebrate Thanksgiving either. Luckily I am reasonably close to one of my best friends from the states and we were able to celebrate turkey day in typical American fashion. This morning I travelled for 4 hours by train to ...
Luxembourg, Luxembourg toriluskWe were on the road by 10 am, just as planned. Traffic is a bit heavier than we would like, but you work with what you're handed. It’s supposed to take about 6 hours to get to Luxembourg. We’ll see how it progresses.
We passed through Belgium at 1:15 pm. We passed through Luxembourg at 2:15 pm. We stopped along the way to have some lunch at 3 pm because I was very hungry. It was a very small town ...
Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg tonkin... Roman ruins and the churches up close. Trier was very nice and I love the feeling there, the Roman baths were also really cool to see. We also had a great dinner in the main square of town. I had Pepper Steak and spetzlah. It was so good. The seats outside were great and I was able to people watch and really just embrace in the culture. Plus a little wine probe, wine tasting, helped a lot.
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg drunkendidier... before my last weekend!! On Saturday I had arranged to go to the Wallygator theme park with Anna - it was another freebie from work as part of their alumni programme and Anna added me as her guest. It was open to the public until 6pm and then the company had a barbecue and private use of the rides. I dashed around and did a bit of last minute shopping in the morning, then a quick trip to Decathlon with Anna before the theme park. When we arrived ...
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg watchoutworld... my walking/bus tour. That night I met up with Emma and Tali from the embassy (Tali is the past intern and had her friend Emma visiting) and we went karaokeing in the town square (the building looks like a present, but let me tell, everyone was quite serious about their karaoke. So, I rocked it out like no other, and the girls did pretty good as well (they were really good). We then grabbed some dinner while ...
Luxembourg, Luxembourg pstan4th... Fee was excited to be coming here as she was in need of some good wine. Aside from the wine, Trier lays claim to being one of the oldest cities in the world, with settlements as early as 3rd century BC. It was also the first place north of the Alps to be designated a city. The Romans settled in the city (hence the production of wine) and it was the capital of the West Roman Empire. A few centuries later it was conquered by the Frankish Germans and has since become part of France and ...
