Shopping!

Today was eventful yet relaxing. We just walked around this town that had tons of history and shops and was just great. I bought some new jeans and a shirt and found some things that i only wish i had the money to buy! We got a can of Dr. Pepper, which you can't find anywhere by the way, for 2 euros which is like $3.50 or something. Karen keeps getting ...

France perty.

... i have no concept of time. I have no clue what day or time i'm in and i only have internet in the office, so i'm back in this room being rude and posting pics. I miss everyone! But, i'm not quite homesick yet. Had another get home cooked meal tonight and they had a friend over. She was hilarious. She's gonna be watching their son while we are in Paris along with doing a few other ...

Day Seized!

... so cool. I put up a few pics here. I feel bad for everyone in freezing cold Nebraska! Don't worry i'll be back to suffer with you soon enough. I spent way too long without internet and thought i was gonna die, but now that i know where to get it from i'm good to go. I'll be traveling into Bergerac tomorrow to check out the small town stuff and see what fun the town has to offer.

Enjoying the last of the summer

It feels like we can really start to enjoy our time in France now we are reunited with Duncan and Moby. On Sunday we rise early to go the market in Libourne. It is bustling with bright market stalls and we supplement our picnic lunch with flat peaches, olives and the obligatory baguette. The boys are fascinated by the live crabs, eyes on stalks. We spend a happy ...

mixed feelings

My mother-in-law was right of course when she suggested one of my last bits would be about mixed feelings.
We are going back to Amsterdam the day after tomorrow and though we have spent about seven weeks here, it feels like it's only just begun. It goes without saying that health problems have been a fly in the ointment - very frustrating not being able to partake in all the fun and activities I normally would. Still it's been ...

ant-agonizing

Just a quickie before we leave for St. Leon-sur-Vézère. Another puzzle. Ants again.

I left a cup of orange juice on the table outside and noticed some ants making their way towards it. Well, it was hot and I thought they were either thirsty or fancied a swim, and forgot all about it. Till we sat down for dinner and I saw what looked like the mesh of very fine tealeaves in the cup. There must have been thousands and thousands of them ...

timing again

We had obviously arrived at an inappropriate time. The staff was just sitting down to start their own meal, but we were still graciously escorted to a small, wobbly table in the middle of the empty restaurant and advised to take our time over the aperitifs. Our lovely French waitress spoke excellent English, which is unusual - turned out she was Canadian, just arrived and still finding her bearings. Ah, good luck, I suspect it could be quite a challenge for this young girl so far ...

timing, continued

We left, of course. With regret, the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly but I wasn't about to hang around for the next 3 or 4 hours feeling this hungry.
So on to the next village, fingers crossed there would be food readily available there. Aubas, some 10 km further on. I love this place. It is situated on the banks of the Vézère and it's a bit of a shambles. No visible order or uniformity. One or two beautiful mansions, in need of a lick of paint, the gardens a little wild, sitting ...

timing

La fête des feux de St-Jean is approaching - the 24th of June.
Probably the biggest celebration of the region, save le 14 Julliet of course. I'm not sure but I think it is a blend of John the Baptist's birthday and midsummer night. A big bonfire is lit at dark, each village having tried to haul in the most logs in a spirit of rivalry. Preceded, of course, by a communal meal, the well known long tables covered in sheets of paper, set with a variety of tableware, depending on the ...

Road trip from Biarritz

Stayed here in Biarritz - thought we would treat ourselves after the rough camping. Very nice indeed! LUXURY indeed.
