Historical Burgundy

We were bussed into Tournus for our walking tour as our ship was still being repaired from its previous bingle. Tournus was an old walled town, as most of them are, and it's main attraction was St Philibert Abbey. A Romanesque church, it was built between the 10th and 12th centuries and contained a quite large crypt originally used as ...

In the earlier MuseoParc, we got to watch LARPers acting out some of the battle tactics of the Gauls and Romans in excruciatingly slow motion, and on an indoor tumbling mat since the outdoor exhibit was cancelled due to rain. That night we waddled home from an excellent dinner which featured some of the local beef from the Charolais cattle and some fantastic cheeses. 4th August- The big tourist draw ...

Today we chose to stay off the hectic autobahn and take more scenic routes. We went through classic little French villages and stopped at a local "Fromagerie" for some authentic Comté, our new ...

... s for each country with food, famous people, inventions and landmarks. Today as we travel to Beaune, we will stop at Avignon where six popes ruled and there is a famous bridge. It's a beautiful, walled city with cobblestones mixed with marble and narrow streets with four and five story houses. There are some squares and of course the pope's buildings and the church, duomo and bell tower. We could only stop for an hour and a half for ...
