G'day,
Gosh it seems such a long time since we last posted a blog. Things have been moving pretty slowly for us and we have spent almost two weeks in Yeppoon. It’s funny how things work out. Now that we are coming to the end of our trip we are taking time to just enjoy our free time and relax and consequently spending extended periods in places and not doing much at all. Where as previously in our trip we were racing ...
From the outside, the Great Western Hotel looks like any ordinary rambling Queensland pub. Walk through the doors, grab a drink, then out to the back, and you have a full size rodeo ring with seating for about 500 people. We must be slowing down a bit, because the four coach loads of oldies beat us to the tables out the back, so we had to be content with sitting at the bar, watching the rodeo ...
Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia joderekononhome... night out in Queensland! Unfortunately I saw almost nothing of Emu park having arrived in the middle of the night, gone straight to the island, returned at dusk and my bus to Townsville was at 7am the following day.
Next up is a couple of days catching up with some 1770 friends in Townsville, followed by the grueling 26 hour bus journey to Alice Springs. When will I learn flying might be scary and more expensive but it’s SO much easier!
... was automated.
A group of volunteers did most of the work and the other cottage on the property always has a volunteer in residence. Apparently anyone can volunteer to do a month at a time to make sure the area is not vandalised and also to show the tour groups through 3 times a week. It is a very remote area and only accessible by boat, or of course, an amphibious vehicle!
We saw some dolphins who were just having ...
We arrived in Yeppoon on a very late Monday afternoon.Yeppoon is about 50 k's away from Rockhampton. The weather was really nice in Yeppoon.Unfortunately we didn't do much besides Marc and I playing soccer outside. But we did go to Great Keppel Island!Great Keppel Island is just in Yeppoon somewhere near a little marina. We took 'Freedom Fast Cats (a half an hour journey),to arrive at Great Keppel ...
Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia macphailsRoad signs to beware of animals is a normal part of traveling Australia. I have seen pretty much all of them now. Kangaroos, wombats, koalas are the norm. Then, up the top end of Queensland, you start running into signs for cassowaries and red kangaroos. But today I saw a particularly novel sign, which made me giggle. 'Drive carefully. Osprey chicks learning to fly'.

... washed and changed and went for a couple of drinks in the bar. Crocodile Dundee (not sure what he's really called) took a shine to Malin and was playing pool with her all night until closing. Apparently he lives in the village but comes to this complex every night without fail (probably looking to get lucky with all the fresh supply of girls). We only stayed for a few and then got an early night as off to the crocodile farm tomorrow.
Also bin ich was essen gegangen und ins Bett gehuepft.
Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia cieloUp and out with the last time having to deal with that broken jetty. The bus ride to Rockhampton took most of the day, and we had a few stops to get costumes for a themed party set for Fraser. The first stop was to a mall for an early lunch where I grabbed McDonalds and had quite possibly the best hamburger ever. Called the McAustralia, it was a quarter pound burger with thick bacon, bbq sauce, and sliced pineapple. It tasted like awesome. As I was to find out later, that ...
Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia edg126... unable to offer us a close enough site we booked an ensuite site so he can hop there on his own. At least now he is able to put a little bit of pressure on it when placing his foot on the ground - something he was totally unable to do 2 days ago. We need his foot to mend and for him to be out and about again - his being indoors is driving us both crazy! The evening news has disillusioned us slightly. There are reports of severe weather conditions approaching the Central ...
