Le piquant vient plutôt du poivre, du gingembre et du cumin et non des piments chilis. Et les autres épices importantes dans cette cuisine régionnale sont les câpres séchés, l'anis étoilé, le tamarin et le kalpasi, un lichen connu sous le nom anglophone de black stone flower. We had seen quite a few kites being flown since we had been in Sri Lanka but it was quite a surprise to see a Union Jack one on the boat trip. There it was floating over the river but we couldn’t see who was flying it. It just seemed rather surreal.

On the road we spotted a truck carrying one of the elephants from the Kandy festival, it seemed incredibly strange that they could be transported so easily this way.
