... de Chettinad est très très aromatique et épicée mais ce sont des saveurs indiennes assez méconnues pour nous. Le piquant vient plutôt du poivre, du gingembre et du cumin et non des piments chilis. Et les autres épices importantes dans cette cuisine régionnale sont les câpres séchés, l'anis étoilé, le tamarin et le kalpasi, un lichen connu sous le nom anglophone de black stone flower. C'était assez particulier !!!

... We also spotted a Grey-headed Fish Eagle on the lookout for a meal. The dead teak trees, remains of the teak plantation that used to be here made wonderful perches for the birds. It also made for an unusual landscape. There were also large groups of Painted Stork as well as numerous Kingfishers.

... quite dark the waters looked almost inky black in colour.

We had seen quite a few kites being flown since we had been in Sri Lanka but it was quite a surprise to see a Union Jack one on the boat trip. There it was floating over the river but we couldn’t see who was flying it. It just seemed rather surreal.

... a couple of batiks of the elephant carrying the tooth relic casket. You could buy all kinds of things made from batik including shirts, but they were a little too colourful to appeal to Andy or the boys.

On the road we spotted a truck carrying one of the elephants from the Kandy festival, it seemed incredibly strange that they could be transported so easily this way.
