woke to a wonderful view of the Lausanne lake. We drove down to evian and after much debating as to which wharf we wer to leave from. We finally found it and took the ferry over to lausanne which was beautiful until the girls found out that they would have to climb a hil to get to the centre of town. ... and potatoes, with a side of dried meat. Now we're not ones for fondue normally, but this was super delicious - very smooth with a creamy cheese flavor that was not too strong. We loved it. Then we washed it down with Gruyere's famous double cream and raspberries. Say no more! After lunch we toured the castle - took us 70 minutes and it was fascinating. Built in the 1500's it has lovely gardens, a tower you can climb (vertigo), many rooms with period furnishings and museum artifacts, ...

I tried to resist, but I'm glad I relented.

... now largely a thing of the past.

Another last thing: there's a terrible storm going on right now. It's interesting to view it from the safety and comfort of the panoramic windows of the hotel's restaurant and lounge area, and hopefully it will clear the skies in readiness for a much longer walking day than today.

Late postcript: the maître d' did me a deal and so I ate in the hotel restaurant after all. I do hope the pate and bread last another day.
