      Sunday – April 5th

Easter Sunday was our day of rest. It was nice to have breakfast at the Lodge and not need to put on our ski gear and hit the mountain. We hung out at the Lodge for a couple of hours and then explored the town a little more. We walked up to the "top of town" where the cooking onsen is. The local villagers use the cooking onsen to slowly cook vegetables and onsen eggs which ...

We arrived at Villa Nozawa to be greeted by Kyoko-san and Mark and Gab – it hardly felt like we'd been away for over a year as they welcomed us like we’d left last week. Villa Nozawa has a lovely warm vibe, always lots of kids and friendly families. They are full which is great (although it makes bookings for next season harder!)

We figured a long travel day earlier in the trip (while we still had energy) would be a little bit easier, while still making sure we fit in all the amazing things we wanted to see during this trip!

We started the day in Tokyo, enjoying a fabulously luxurious room service breakfast at the Park Hyatt. Again, the staff does not disappoint with one of the ...

Its a 4 hour bus ride from Tokyo to Nagano. We take the bus over the train, as the Shinkansen is not cheap, and i have never driven on the roads in Japan, so it will be a good experience. The bus is as punctual as the train and departs on time to the minute. The drive has plenty of beautiful country side and snow capped alps. We one stop once at a rest stop for 15 minutes, which is enough to stretch the legs. The driver tells us ...

... walkway. This is the main method of reaching the bedrooms when the property is full. Sound travels through the whole building without issue, including the creaking of this old structure. Some walls are made of cob (a straw and mud mixture), which hold up well. A great modern convenience is the inclusion of sliding wooden framed glass doors, to keep the wooden corridors from the elements. Kind of like double glazing they provide a little extra insulation, ...
