    ... br> Drove though a little village called Fauske located on a fiord, surrounded by mountains. Mountains contain rocks and the rock they have is marble. It is the town that supplied the marble for Congress thingie in New York. It is a pink marble with a tinge of green. Slightly 70's colour and somewhat out of date.

    Pulled into the arctic circle line at 66 degrees. We saw the memorials to the Russian and Yugoslavs prisoners who were used by the Germans to build the Blood ...

    The good news we found out this morning was that the Scandinavian winter just gone has been the longest in living memory. As a result the weather here has been pretty average, a lot of rain over the last few days. It’s actually going to be warmer going back to an Adelaide winter.
    Today was pretty uneventful, a lot of the day was spent on the bus. As a result I spent the day catching up on Game of Thrones ...

    For a day that was largely going to be spent doing pretty much nothing, I had to get up pretty early. We were crossing the Arctic Circle heading south and there was going to be a ceremony out on deck to mark the occasion. The announcement was made about 10 minutes before we were due to reach it and I hurried up to deck 7 just in time to see Vikingen Island approaching on the starboard side.     Today the weather improved, and the views continue to be fantastic. The temperature is in the 30s, but with mostly sunshine, which is the prospect for the rest of the trip. A few samples of the many pictures I shot are below.

    The coastal inner passage created the name of the country, as the WAY to the NORTH. We just passed the town of Rorvik a couple of hours ago. The sun sank below the horizon about 10:30, but it is still light enough for picture taking. In about three hours the sun will reappear.
