... 40km hop to Villemagne in dull weather, ended when we reached the Weedons, in bright sunshine. Time to fill the cubes and for D to have a swim. And best of all, hot showers.
Friday was lunch and supper with Simon and Suzie. We brought some wines from Aquitaine and a bottle of an orange liqueur called Perigord. So good food and fab company.
Saturday again was warm and sunny and we went to the evening concert. Hmmm! More equipment ...

Well it didn't take long and we were once again in the Peugeot doing 130kph. The 630 km trip to Soulan in the Pyrenees would go quick at this pace, so would our coins. Those nasty toll machines seemed to be getting more greedy by the kilometer.

... to the Col de Marie Blanque (1035m), which has featured regularly in the Tour de France since its first inclusion in 1978, and winds steeply up to its summit in a relatively short distance. We cycled along the green valley floor towards the small town of Laruns: this is the last flat stretch of road we saw today, as we tackled the start of the Col d’Aubisque (1709m). A true Tour legend, the Aubisque has featured ...

... run down and not loved as much. Fed and watered and off we go. 15.20 hrs made good time. Arrived tired. Oh oh. Lourdes has been taken over by cheap and cheerful tacky shops and disgusting cafes. What a sham. So many people believing in the legend of this place. All here for hope, to pray and cure. Wouldn't want to burst their bubble but? Words fail ...
