So much potential

22nd
As we now needed to be in Barcelona in 5 days to meet Kim's mum it was time to say goodbye to Italy. As the day was overcast and the drive on the autopista easy we just kept on driving (from 8am until 5.30pm) and arrived into Les Acrs in France time for a beer and dinner then bed.

And voila.... a river out of nowhere

... rain finally stopped after nearly a week so we were able to enjoy some out of Scooby time!

Saturday 7 Nov
Forecasted for rain today but it held off until late afternoon which gave me time to replace the washer in the gear box and for Kim to go for a run, which she was hankering for as she had been getting a little cabin fever of late due to the rain and lack of exercise/time outside!

... and Rhone. Built in 90 AD it’s hard to imagine all the events that have taken place in this building. Walking around and around, I tried to imagine it filled with 20 000 screaming fans as gladiators ripped apart animals, but it was hard. From Medieval times to the 1830’s, it was bricked up and used as a fortified city. 212 housed and 2 churches made their home ...

... a painting. But instead of letting that get to me, I will sink myself into the paintings and see the world the way Vincent would have liked.

Colours changing hue.
Morning fields of amber red.
Weathered faces lined in pain
And soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand.

Envious of the painter’s ability to tweak ...

Arrived at Avignon for 3 days stay.

We got up this morning at the Hilton in Lyon and went directly into Lyon to walk around the old city. Most of the old city is taken up with restaurants, but we did find a silk shop to get the wedding present we had planned to get, so we can check that one off our list! We have a few pictures to upload, but it was mostly walking around, stopping in to Cathedral St. Jean, and walking around the market. Fun was had driving, as always, but we made it ...

... fallen, she moved to Cannes, France where she lived at the same school that Ross goes to right now, the College International de Cannes. There she took classes in French and also lived with a French family. Because she didn't know English, she got good at French really quick out of necessity of communication. Along with studying French, she learned English by just speaking with the people around her. She never took any formal English classes and when I ...

... thought for sure there would be a dance or music performance that didn't have a language requirement. 800 performances a day we were told and handed a huge catalogue with all the times, dates, and events. Umm... what to do? Feeling overwhelmed and not being able to read any of the descriptions we opted for skipping a paid performance and enjoyed the street performers and crazy people dressed in costume for free. The entire afternoon and evening we did our ...

the recap

Errff -- I can't remember which town I wrote about last time. Guess that's the trouble with doing most of your travel writing once you're actually home from your trip! On the other hand (I'm scrambling for a lure so you'll want to keep reading) by the time you've been back for a while, you have more perspective on your trip -- you know what's really memorable, because you needed some time to see what you remember. If that ...
