Paris in a whirlwind

... worked out despite everyone but me getting sick. My kids will be great travelers (and hopefully someday eat some new food!) I think we made Colleen into a traveller as well and I hope that she takes Kristin and Andy up on their offer to go to Ireland with them to celebrate Taylors 16th (legal drinking age) birthday. Come on Colleen, I know you want to go.

Thanks for reading all the blogs as well. That is half the fun to travelling is sharing with ...

My Sixtieth Birthday!

... mouche ( September is great for that - no tourists, except for me ) and eating ice cream at Berthillon. I have some wine tastings set up for us, too. Being in the business, it's pretty straight forward for me to get the professional hookup, and I am trying to work it. We are going to get a private tour of Veuve Clicquot, and I am working on William Fevre ( Chablis ), Bouchard ( Beaune ) and Henriot ( Epernay. ) This is going to be a great trip!

Affie -koor gee jou vlerke na Parys 2

Paris - Day 1 in Europe!

... also saw some 2 euro sparkling white wine and couldn't resist and so we were off again! We were a little confused as to where to go to the metro as we wanted to catch some of the city (due to the delayed flight and long bus ride it was already after 5 PM!!!). Walking around for a bit we did a full circle to Garde de Lyon where our bus first dropped us off, oops. I whipped out the dSLR pretty frequently and ironically I was a little tired of the excessive photos ...

Day 1: Paris

... hour we are ready to start to see the city. We begin with a walk through the Latin Quarter. Maxime leads us to the Seine across from Notre Dame. The city is busy and there are lots of Americans around. We pass Shakespeare and Co. and one of the oldest churches in the city: St. Julien le Pauvre, which dates to at least the 6th C a.d. We are hungry! We go to a café in the maze of narrow streets that make up the heart of the Left Bank. We have crèpes, ice cream ...

France Trip - Part V, Paris Again

Two high speed trains. One metro. One tram ride. A few boat rides. And a camel. Okay, so there was no camel, but the rest is true. Because you need reservations to travel any of the high speed trains, with or without a eurail pass, we were limited in what we could get from Lyon to Paris on only a few days notice. Next trip we will plan our times well in advance. So our train left Lyon at 8am. That meant getting up and showered at 6 and, gulp, waking all ...

Paris Again Again

... the sculptures and headed to the Musee d'Orsay. We had thought to go to the Orsay on the Monday and do the Louvre on the Tuesday, Of course if we had read our lonely planet we would have realised that Orsey is not open on a Monday and the Louvre not open on a Tuesday and quickly swapped them around. So back over the river and to the Louvre, the grounds themselves were beautiful, it was a sunny day and easy walking. As it was afternoon the line was virtually non-existent, (despite the ...

I've reduced my life's to do list

... the streets. However, at times the streets had an eerie, desolate feeling as most shops were closed and apartments vacant. Parisians depart their homes for the month of August, leaving room for the influx of tourists. I only saw a snippet of the daily Parisian lifestyle... so many questions remain. I am still not quite sure what typical French cuisine is, besides the stereotypical foods. Croissants and wine... yummy. And their famous nougat miel ...

¡Descubriendo la ciudad, una torre a la vez!

... I went to Paris for four days, we had a good time and we saw a lot of the city in the short time that we were there. I would definitely like to go back some day, maybe it will be better when I know some French! These pictures are from the Arc d´Triumph, Louvre Museum, Notre Dame, etc. The weather was pretty overcast the whole time we were here, so I apologize if the pictures are a bit fuzzy at times--I prefer to blame it on the weather than my inability to take ...
