    ... and Clermont-Ferrand became home. Most shops were closed for the month of August when those who could afford it took their 'congé annuel'. We hung out with those who didn't jet off to the Riviera, a demographic of the population who live day by day and who seemed to appreciate us strangers as a welcome distraction. We, in turn, appreciated the company and there were more than a few farewells to deliver at the end of the month.

    Caleb and I ventured out to catch a game or two of a junior tennis tournament that was starting today. The teenagers were playing on clay courts just like at Rolland Garos (French Open).     Caleb went on an outing with 10 or so other kids to the Museum Le Coq. He learned about minerals, birds and lots more. It was organized by the Sable Show people. Evening time was Sandball for the adults. A guy was wearing a Montreal Canadians T-shirt sober named our team The Canadians!!! A sad moment occurred when Caleb was chosen captain of a team and promptly passed over picking me for his team four times. His only excuse was 'you are really not good at rugby' - which I suppose he has a point.
