Paris2

... left late or we would've been stuck in a traffic jam all day. We just had to take an alternate route, which didn't take that long, anyway. We arrived in Paris, and found some underground parking. I had mentioned earlier in conversation that Melbourne didn't have a metro system, so Jean-Luc wanted to show me Paris's metro system. As it was 12:30, we got some lunch first. We went to a restaurant that serves food from Savoire, a region in France ...

My First Trip To Paris, France

... Rouge, and a couple museums (in no particular order). The worst part about this day wasn't all the walking but because I had disposable cameras. Still, I tried my best to take good shots. Those who say Paris is dirty are full of ****. Paris is very clean considering its size and the amount of people living there and traveling through. Lunch came around and I wandered between four different places because they were either full or closed...yea, you got me. The spot I picked ...

Paris, day 2

... mult. Putea fi si nutretz, for all I care! Apoi am urcat la terasa, asa ca am vazut panorama si din coltul asta de oras. Am luat busul si ne-am carat la Arcul de Triumf ...

Weekend in Paris

... I'm talking thousands were easily seen from the TV screen. Alison had to get up around 5:30 a.m. for her flight, so we decided against it. Anyway, it looked amazing. Sunday morning I slept in. I got up and was out of my hotel by 11:00. I was really excited to just go to the mall for a while before heading to the airport. We had all ready been in a few stores and window shopping Friday evening. Unfortunately, when I got there I realized it ...

Parisienne pickpockets and police

... on the horizon, and a queue of mini-van taxis that could fit the six of us and our luggage, so this boded quite well! The taxi was immaculate, the driver wore a suit and conversed enthusiastically about his town, telling us about the main products (lace, waffles, fries...what's not to love?) and then dropped us off at the most divine, character-filled hotel in a cobble-stoned street. We were ushered to our huge, renovated, comfortable quarters, where we gratefully dumped our bags and ...

Back to Paris Two

One more! It isn't as long, I promise. Wednesday was probably my favorite day. I had my interview with Andrew and Staci (my directors in Rennes) for my placement with my host family. I think that Staci did a wonderful job in choosing my family, more on that later. After that, we milled around the hostel and then decided to head to the café on rue de Rivoli and use the free WiFi. Alas, in Paris everything is trés cher or very expensive. For a café au lait, we paid 4 ...

Au Revior Paris!!!

... the menu said. It was ok! Then we went back to the hostel and ran into 2 Brazilan guys that we had made friends with and were staying in the room with us. They wanted to walk to the Eiffel Tower so we went with them. On one side of the tower there is a huge grassy park where you can take great pictures and sit and look at the tower. At night I think it is popular with young locals who bring wine out there and sit under the tower. We took some ...

day two.

... all seem very fashiony, beautiful and big-city demanding in a way that might be a lot to take. there are three who seem to have good-friend potential. a few girls and i walked to the eiffel tower after school, making our first day in paris as cliche as possible, but it was beautiful, really. you could see all the way to hilly montmartre where i will live in four days, near the moulin rouge (but far enough from the red light district), and across from the caffe where amelie was ...

France 1 Brazil 0!!!

... it was packed with crazy Frenchies.) There were a lot of fireworks going off in the street. So we went back to the hotel and the more sensible members of our party went to bed (it was about 12am.) But Tony headed down to the Champs to soak up the atmosphere! Apparently it was a bit like a "happy" riot. Cool but a bit scary. It was hot the entire time we were in Paris...I am so over the European summer. Am looking forward to some cooler weather back home (who thought I'd ever say that?)

Randomness

... but (not to knock mom's good cooking) the meat was incredibly tender and the sauce was spicier, which I liked. Then, for the grand finale of dessert, I got this incredible "Trilogy of chocolate mousse" which was a layered dish of white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate mousse. After that meal I definitely have converted to the side of advocating French food. Since there's not much else to recount, I'll write about some of the quirkiness I've noticed while living here ...
