Took the most of our first free day in almost a month and didn't set an alarm so we could catch up on some much needed sleep. Decided in the afternoon we should probably leave the hotel room and check out the city. No metro so decided to catch a cab inside the city walls but after discovering it was 18€ that was the last time we caught a cab …

      Train to Avignon

Early start to make it to the train station. Future it a bit finer than I had hoped but made it on anyway to start the 5 hour train ride to Avignon. What a glorious day to wake up to. The sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky and not a puff of wind, today is going to be awesome. We headed to Remoulins just north of Nimes to have a look at even grander Aqueduct than that at Castries and it didn't disappoint. Pont Du Gard. This piece of engineering is truly spectacular and to think that it was constructed in the years around 50AD is even more amazing and the fact that it is still standing is significant. This aqueduct ...

... local train to Lyon, which ran 20 mins late to catch TGV. Would have been fine as we had allowed 17 mins to change trains! Fortunately the TGV was 20 minutes late as well. Welcome to France! So no dramas really. Then a schuttle train to Avignon. Walked through the city walls from the station and soon found our hotel. Looks run down from the outside but inside really nice. Staff great and restaurants they suggested were full, but local wine bar was ...
