This is an interesting little tour and worth doing if you have the time, and definitely if you're a fan of van Gogh.

... it was the weekend and very soon after New Year's Day.

I missed out on seeing the Gardens and the Castle as I arrived late and they'd already done it.

From here we also did a half-day trip to Arles - see next entry.
There are other smaller villages around to do day trips to/from, such as Avignon.
Marseilles and Montpelier are also 2-3 hours away by train.

... plus a whole host of arts and crafts and handy Christmas gifts. The other thing that is very noticeable are the number of manger scenes, in fact, in the middle of Nice, they even had pens of sheep and goats! Every church, every town hall and most town centres have full scale mangers with large terracotta figures. Most also put an ice rink into the middle of the town - they definitely know how to celebrate Christmas.

... this we headed back to Avignon for some free time away from each other and a chance to do some tourist things.
