... get back across town to our apartment. We are only 100m from a metro station (Parmentier) which is great. We bought a 5 day rail pass so we can really explore.
Mikaela is getting really good at reading metro maps and working out lines and where we need to change. We are just working out our trip to Disneyland tomorrow as we want a sleep in. It opens at 10 and closes at 10.

Our hotel room curtains had great tasselled cords, in a classical French style, tying them back, and Mary had surreptitiously snipped a couple of the tassel threads and was using them to tie her sandal straps together and keep them away from the sores on her two feet. Problem solved, and with no obvious damage to the tassels.
Setting off in good time we navigated our way via three Metro lines to the Bateaux ...

... firework display any of us had seen started on both banks of the Seine and to the top of the tower. There was a kaleidoscope of colours being played from both the tower and our side of the river and also search lights sweeping the skies. The theme of the fireworks was “War and Peace” the date 1939 was flashed on to the tower accompanied by the loudest bangs of any of the fireworks which seemed to thump you in the chest. ...

... a disappointment and served only to show how much better the University of Newcastle choir is.
To lift our spirits we had a drink and a Berthillon ice cream at a bar and then walked to Notre Dame to see it floodlit after sunset. It is a beautiful sight made even more interesting by a pair of excellent jugglers who performed with various props with lighted flames. Then back home to a light tapas style dinner.

Saturday 24 May 2014 – Good night's sleep and up reasonably early. Jo had rung Gayla to get the location of the markets in Puces de Vanves (antique type second hand goods). So off we headed on the Metro, and with Jo skilfully directing us (actually she lead, Malcolm and Karen simply followed) we did indeed arrive and had a good time checking out the wares on offer.
