... the local bar and settled in for a few drinks and complimentary tapas.

Wed 11 Nov
Riva Ligura even better in the sunlight had a pretty little piazza and church which had a beautiful painted interior - much unexpected by us. The novalty factor was it had automatic sliding doors!
Riva Liguria, Liguria, Italy darrenhough74After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74... and not campervan parking friendly. We found a picture perfect stop just after Monte Carlo at the top of a hill overlooking the Med. We had the place to ourselves so we russelled up some brekkie in the sun which was lovely, so much so we were in t-shirts!!!
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74Gorgeous morning and a stunning place for breakfast awaited us just outside Scooby overlooking the lake. I went for a run but Kim was feeling a little under the weather so she stayed and made me breakfast - yay! We spotted two girls about our age and attempted to engage in some conversation but their English was limited and French is rubbish. Shame as its manily been the grey hair brigade we ...
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74Bonjour! Today we arrive at Monaco! A district of royalty and affluence! The home of Prince's and Princesses! An area visited by many Prince's and Princesses as well as celebrities, millionaires and billionaires! It's a place to see and be seen! It's a location where wealth is a necessity and sophistication is a requirement!

Also today, Elsie celebrates a birthday! Her 60th! That little girl born on ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... for one looking out on the garden and 100 Euros for one looking out over the Mediterranean. No thanks.

So, we took a walk down the way and talked about what to do. First, anyone who thinks the beaches at Nice are good have never been to any beach in Florida, or Ocean City for that matter. Rocks everywhere. The water was a very pretty blue, but getting there would require shoes and lying out for a sun would require some padding ...
Nice, Provence, France tedanderinstarr... not to have to carry food around all day we would go out for dinner that evening. On arriving at our destination town we were immediately led away, up and over a hill that seemed to last forever to the campsite on the shore of a nearby lake. Unfortunately with nowhere to eat at the campsite this meant we would have to trudge back up and over into town for dinner, cue a massive thunderstorm and torrential rain. Sat in the tent at this point things wern't looking good ...
Nice, Provence, France sh3251So didn't quite get to Barcelona. I got the trains mixed up so I had to come to Nice France for one day, darn.... Actually now that I am here I wish I could stay longer but I really want to see Barcelona that has been on my itinerary since day one and I will not miss it, even if it is only for 3 days. I can't believe how fast this trip is going. I only have 3 1/2 weeks left and most of that time is giong to be ...
Nice, Provence, France indigosb... social outlet for all ages but certainly for the senior aged men (their wives probably kick them out of the house during the day, or the men are escaping their nagging wives - depending on your perspective!). The village was quaint and very clean. The French Riviera is lovely and clean with friendly helpful people, not the stereotypical despisers of English language speakers you always hear about, as tourism ...
Nice, Provence, France tlbuster... had to leave the hostel at 7am (to make way for their breakfast time) and find another place to lounge. We were so tired! We tried to sleep on a bench on the waterfront overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean ocean, but alas sore necks made us move to the stone covered beach (ouch!) where we managed to get maybe another hours worth. This experience pretty much put us out for the day and managed to survive our fatigue until ...
