Monte Carlo, an unbelievable place

... staff than patrons. Cost €10 to get in! The interior is like one of the palaces I’ve been too; plush seats; pull levers on the pokies. The tables are old-style with the croupiers using real rakes to literally rake the money in. Even the toilets are self-cleaning. The whole place is quite surreal. Not as big as I imagined, and I think it was quiet because u had to pay, whereas the casino at my hotel was always packed & free entry with ...

And so it begins. my life as a teacher? day 1

... if she tries to sort all this out now we'll figure it out at noon when she has off. so i called her back and said it wasn't acceptable, i still had a class at 9:30 and i didn't know with whom or where, and made her look it up for me. I wasn't about to skip my first real day of work because someone didn't do her job! fyi she's also the lady who tried to force us into that dark smelly apartment that didn't have internet, and was in sketch town.

So i make ...

I'm in Monte Carlo baby!

... tomorrow. The hotel is the flashest i have ever stayed at. There was a gala ball on tonight and some famous people (tv cameras here and all!). I didn't recognise anyone tho. Had a drink at the bar to soak up the atmosphere. My view is fantastic.

Not going to update the travel blog for a few days while I enjoy the relax time in Monte Carlo. Will summarise it all with photos once I’m on my way to Italy. Here’s hoping the weather shines for me.

A Dog's Life

... up with veal. It was fine, but not seafood. We have also learned to order “pichet” which is a pitcher of local wine from a keg. Inexpensive and tasty. The people eating next to us brought their dog to dinner, inside. We have seen this quite often at outdoor cafes, but this is the first time one was inside. It was very well behaved, we didn’t even know it was in the room until they got up to leave. It’s a dogs life down here, pampered and restful.

Antibes

... in Chamonix, leaving us a little stunned in Cannes with movie passes. Not to let a good thing go to waste, we headed to the hotel and tried to look important while enjoying our cocktails and admiring the view of the swanky yachts off shore. With a few hours to kill until our movie, we walked along the boardwalk and took in the sights. A small crowd of paparazzi caught our attention ahead, so like good gawkers we joined them to see what the fuss was about ...

... trains going even in the direction of Antibes. I got a little worried that after waiting for 2 hours already that I would have to wait even more. The man then asked where I was going and he said that he too was going to Antibes and I could take the train with him in 15 minutes! I guess it helps sometimes to talk to strangers. The nice old man then brought me outside to wait for the train and asked me all about school and my stay in France and my family at home. He also told ...

Last days in Antibes and surrounds

... in Antibes again determined to complete our walk around to Cap Antibes on the rocky sea front. We made it in about 3 hours, but as it was the hottest day we had experienced since being in Antibes we did feel weary by the end. On one stretch, with a huge rock wall on one side of us, soaking up all the afternoon sun and reflecting it, as well as the direct sun, it felt like we were walking in 38 degree temperatures.... Hopefully it was a good preparation for ...

Antibes at last

... African), a British Pub, are establishments we have to walk past between carpark and house. This place is going to be hell. Very well set up for the crews and owners of the many many yachts (sailing and other) of all sizes, that are in residence in the harbour. Styles of pubs and restaurants cater for all who may be passing through from the multi billionaires to their Kiwi crew members. Yes they are all here!
