    Panic, stress and luck

... 5km away, the stress sinks is as we cannot find a cab near by shop keepers discuss in Greek if any of them can give us a ride - you have to love the kindness of the Greeks. Luckily we find a cab and mange to get to the port and aboard the ferry by 5.30pm. We spend the night playing cards with two Greek boys who are traveling around Europe on the euro rail for the next month. Sleeping on the deck of the ferry tonight as we are to cheap to pay for cabins this is going to be ...

This town above all brought it home to us the plight of the Greeks; it was once a bustling tourist town with many cafés and shops. Back up into the hills there were ruins of historical importance that used to bring people flocking to view but now the tourist numbers have dwindled to a trickle, and so the fairly large town is all but dead.

But we managed to get through, and made a nice early start the following morning to collect ...

    Overnight Ferry

A travel blog entry by trevorrose on Jun 25, 2012

... free wifi!!! So we spent the two hours sipping coffee and catching up with all the news and gossip from home! It was supposed to be a three hour drive to Patras to catch our overnight ferry back to Italy, but an hour away from the port we stopped for a break and the coach driver noticed water streaming from the back of the coach! An inspection by the driver revealed a leak in the condenser tank of the air conditioner and he informed us we were going no ...

Long days at port & sea

... were VERY early for our ferry (by 10 hours!), and didn't really have any options aside from staying in the new air con waiting room on benches. There was a duty free shop, and vending machines, but that was really it. Cam and I did venture out at one point in the afternoon, and were able to walk through the dodgy area, through the fence hole, and about 1km to get to a Goody’s (Greek fast food) and be able to get some lunch (and take some food back for Jude & Dave). ...
