... be dinner sorted…..Time for sundowners…..As we prepare our seafood delicacy the sky turns a deep pink and the huge gold-silver full moon rises over the calm water in front of us. Life could really not be more perfect.

So the planned three nights turn to four, then six and finally after ten blissful days we sadly leave this slow moving piece of peace and drive back to Nairobi. Within three ...
Mombasa, Kenya manic-trip... In 1995, a woman by the name of Margaret was walking through the ghettos of Mombasa, right near her home, and saw a woman curled up in a ball holding a baby that must have been only five to six months old. Margaret approached the woman asking if she could be of any assistance. The woman and the baby followed Margaret to her home where Margaret provided the little food she had for them and listened to their story. This woman was from Saudi Arabia ...
Mombasa, Coast, Kenya taliasegal... Parrot Fish. We returned to the hotel and showered before going for lunch. After lunch we watched TV for a while and then hit the swimming pool. After swimming a bit we hung around the hotel before heading off for dinner. 22 MAY MOMBASA/RETURN After a leisurely breakfast we took our domestic flight to Nairobi to connect to our next destination...Dubai
Mombasa, Kenya shantanuchand... Nim Tree, it has very unique and absolutely amazing hand carved features built by the locals and I'm going to have it made for 20 pounds and sell it for 35,000pounds, become very, very rich quickly - buy a massive expanse of land buy lots of beautiful shiny designer clothes and feature myself in German OK magazine! Or........... I'm going to have one bed made, sell it in Nyali (where the affluent set aspire to ...
Mombasa, Kenya amandab9375... where the Volunteer House is located). Two hours later - having only travelled 10 kms through Mombasa at an average speed of 3mph we turned down several dirt tracks, through a few ditches, narrowly avoiding several skinny cows and 900 goats (who also use the highway to travel), emergency braking at least a hundred times (they must change their brake lights a few times a year out here)! we arrived at what can only be described as Hell's Waiting Room - on no that was inside ...
Mombasa, Kenya amandab9375... other than the rotating diet of ugali (flour and water made into a dough) with broth, coconut rice and samaki (fish - whole fish cut into three pieces - head, middle, tail. We try not to get the head), and chapatis and beans. Since this is getting long and expensive (67 shillings = just over $1 CAD haha) I should go. Thanks again for the emails, and sorry to those I haven't responded to yet! I miss you all and will be thinking about you this Valentines Day! xox Michelle
Mombasa, Kenya michmalb... feel quite overwhelmed. Probably the fact that we try to get out of the very touristy places doesnt make situation easier - that I am different I dont need to remind myself. Each morning I step out of any house, I feel pierced with the looks. Maybe for some people its rewarding and joyfull - I feel pretty exhausted after a short while. I didnt realize I am that strange just being white... Probably too late I realized I should collect the ...
Mombasa, Kenya shoeinmissin... Tanzania. I arrived later in the evening and found a taxi to my hotel. I realized before I arrived that Mombasa caters more to the wealthy beach resort-type tourists than penny-pinching backpackers so I was worried about finding cheap accommodation. The only reasonable hotel I found online was a beach hotel on the northern side of Mombasa so I asked my taxi driver to take me there. Meanwhile I asked him how to find something cheaper while I ...
Mombasa, Kenya nomad_chad... and we took matatus to breakfast. At breakfast we saw these MASSIVELY HUGE spiders! It was horrible! I tried to take a pic but it didn't work out so well. We bought veggies from the veggie market and then random stuff from the store, and then we went to our cottage. Seriously it was amazing. I cannot believe how beautiful it was. From the pics, I don't know if you can tell that, but we were in awe at how lucky we were. Especially for so cheap! 800 shillings a night, per ...
Mombasa, Kenya hska... dehydrated. The rest of the day was tainted by a borderline delirium on my part. Lunch was never mentioned by Pastor Oda and with limited water the three of us were suffering from heat exhaustion. But we still enjoyed the nature park. I saw tortoises, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and all kinds of birds. It was great, especially since we didn't have to pay for a safari. By five o' clock Grant convinced our new friends that we were all sick with the heat and ...
