... for cuckoo clocks and Christmas shops. Everywhere there were beautiful shops and quaint cafes. I would return to this town in a minute.
We had local german beer on the return bus trip, you wouldn't see that in the US.
After dinner we went to the lounge to participate in a trivia game. We lost. No surprises there. The big surprise was a woman who is 77 said she would pole dance and she DID! Hysterical. Who knew this crowd could get so rowdy.
... between Budapest and Amsterdam.
We’re now traveling on the Main River. We’ve seen many swans and ducks on the river and the hills have many vineyards. After lunch we docked at Wurzburg , another picturesque town with many church spires and a fortress on the hill. The river is crossed by another old stone bridge with large statues of Bishop Princes and saints lining the sides of the bridge.
... most important cities in the Holy Roman Empire and in 1248 work began on its mighty cathedral, designed to house the relics of the Three Wise Men. Known as the Dom (pronounced dome), it was once the world’s tallest building and is arguably still the world’s greatest Gothic edifice, attracting pilgrims from all over Europe, even though it was not to be completed for another six centuries. It is still Germany’s most visited attraction.
... We are told to go upstairs and the audio guides are available at the entrance.
As we go up the stairs we do see the incredible painting on the ceiling here. It is a huge staircase going up in the centre and then divides and goes up again on either side. The painting is astounding. Then we go in to a side room with chairs in it and look at the ceiling in there, another great master piece. There are some tours ...
... get a guided tour of the memorial site, since it only cost us 12 euro, which included the train and bus ride there and back.
Our guide's name was Kevin and he talked too fast and walked even faster. It didn't take away from the experience too much, but next time we're in Munich, later on in life, I'll go visit without a tour to meander as I please and not be rushed by anyone. To the tour's credit, we just barely caught the bus and would have missed the train had ...
... We only just had enough time to clean up and go for dinner and then went to the lounge for a talent concert put on by the crew. I have never laughed so much, Mac put it all on video so we will have that as a wonderful memory. Pretty tired at the end of the day so packed up at 10:30pm and went to bed. It is dusk at this time and seems to be strange going to bed when it is still light outside."
Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany aliceandmac... towering walls, we realize that our hour and a half break is more like 3 hours! I swear, we can burn time like nobody's business. Reaching the front of the castle, we soon realize that our hour long trek up the side of a small mountain, through a vineyard and over gravel/dirt roads could have been a mere 20 min climb by a nicely finished staircase to the front gate! OH brother. Moving along....we continue our drive to Koln cathedral.
Wurzburg, Bavaria, Germany katieandchris... a litre, the bike is going well and just loves cruising along at 110 to 120 luggage and all. We arrived at Wurzburg late last night just as it was going dark so it was a hotel, no problem finding one but only one small **** room left so with some help from the staff found a great hotel around the corner and teh first place gave us a parking spot, as we were unpacking we got talking to a couple from Sydney who are also ...
Wurzburg, Germany 2bikers... day because the charter airline flies home from London on Saturday (and from Frankfurt on Sunday), and the London flight also leaves early in the day. The Frankfurt flight leaves at 19:00, so I've got all day tomorrow to go see Koln. It's almost like I've gained an extra three days just by flying home from here instead of London. Thinking about those three extra days that I had made me feel a bit better about leaving tomorrow - sigh ... my last night in Europe ...
