    Saxon silver trail

A travel blog entry by my-house on Oct 14, 2014

We are now approaching the Saxon "Switzerland" on the border with the Czech Republic. This is mining country and reminds me if the Colorado mining area. Silver and a bunch of rare earth metals were hauled out of this region until the mines died. The towns south and east of Zwichau are deep in the hills and now create the most incredible wood carved items and handmade lace. Gorgeous country as usual :) Zwichau is also known for the cars produced by the Horch factory - Audi ...

... unique temperature and mineral content, even though they all come from the same original source. The town is located in a large valley, surrounded by a beautiful forest popular with Czech, German and Russian hunters. Had to use two hands to take my inhaler then I overdosed on it just to get to sleep in the hell hole of a tent. Ice box by night and fiery furnace by morning. Talking of holes, **** holes. That is literally our toilet, a hole that is dug into the floor decorated by a pretty door, a door with a hole in so that everyone can see your shameful face. We are literally living like barn cats, I ...

We set off quite early after breakfast for the Dolomites. The weather was kind with warm temperatures and sunny skies. We met 2 other riding friends Justis and Norbet who were joining Ric and Bryan on the 4 passes ride. Richard was pretty tired by now and wasn't sure he would make the 1 st pass let alone 4! Again Sue and Annabel were cycling wives. They spent their time driving up 2 of the passes Gardena and Sella. This trip they enjoyed trying out new ...

... there is still a very noticeable one, despite 25 years have passed sine!
Factories, large and smaller ones are unused, windows smashed, lots of houses with broken facades, and so on... When arriving in Zwickau, there were compare to before, hardly any people around, and Zwickau is not a little village.
The struggle to find a place to sleep, the empty streets and the starting rain, did not help my moral.
The next morning things looked a bit rosier again, I ...
