    Saxon silver trail

A travel blog entry by my-house on Oct 14, 2014

We are now approaching the Saxon "Switzerland" on the border with the Czech Republic. This is mining country and reminds me if the Colorado mining area. Silver and a bunch of rare earth metals were hauled out of this region until the mines died. The towns south and east of Zwichau are deep in the hills and now create the most incredible wood carved items and handmade lace. Gorgeous country as usual :) Zwichau is also known for the cars produced by the Horch factory - Audi ...

... unique temperature and mineral content, even though they all come from the same original source. The town is located in a large valley, surrounded by a beautiful forest popular with Czech, German and Russian hunters. ... forth as the boys were stuck in a storm at the top. They had lunch and still it was thundering down. The girls did not know what to do. At last Sue saw what looked like 4 riders descending. It did not seem possible that they would come down such a steep decline in pouring rain but it was them. They were a shivering, bedraggled group of freezing Lycra. We bundled them up and they changed in the rain before putting on the heater and driving back to ...

    ... that.
If someone says, Germany is a flat country, they never biked through there. I crossed the "Fichtelgebirg", the little "Erzgebirge", plus heaps of hills not specially mentioned, but with all my luggage at least challenging.
After passing the town of Hof, I then came to the boarder Bayern /Sachsen .
I did take little notice at the sign there, that until November 12th 1989, Germany and Europe were divided at that point.
To my surprise, now on former East ...
